Publisher's Summary

The third volume of The Heritage of Shannara, which continues one of the most popular fantasy series of all time

"Find the Elves and return them to the world of Men!" The shade of the Druid Allanon had ordered Wren.

It was clearly an impossible task. The Elves had been gone from the Westland for more than a hundred years. There was not even a trace of their former city of Arborlon left to mark their passing. No one in the Esterland knew of them - except, finally, the Addershag.

The blind old woman had given instructions to find a place on the coast of the Blue Divide, build a fire, and keep it burning for three days. "One will come for you."

Tiger Ty, the Wing Rider, had come on his giant Roc to carry Wren and her friend Garth to the only clear landing site on the island of Morrowindl, where, he said, the Elves might still exist, somewhere in the demon-haunted jungle.

Now she stood within that jungle, remembering the warning of the Addershag: "Beware, Elf-girl. I see danger ahead for you...and evil beyond imagining." It had proved all too true.

Wren stood with her single weapon of magic, listening as demons evil beyond all imagining gathered for attack. How long could she resist?

And if, by some miracle, she reached the Elves and could convince them to return, how could they possibly retrace her perilous path to reach the one safe place on the coast?

narration issues

i loved this book however, i felt it was narrated too quickly and was better listened to at 0.95 speed. for the story itself ,i felt that brooks spent too much time describing the scene and on the feelings of the characters leaving not much room for events and character development. overall still a great book but was tempted to skip ahead due to endless metaphors and repetition of thoughts.

Another great book by Terry!

Another great book by Terry! I love this series! I do wish that the narrators would all pronounce the names the same in this series though. Otherwise great!

Why the random chapters?

Loved the story. Just don't get why 3 random chapters from Druid were thrown in...

Easy to follow

Elf Queen, based on the titular character, may be in (what some these days are calling) the New Adult Category. Long before YA was a huge market, this add-on trilogy series was remarkably unencumbered with needless ero-ism. And long before audiobooks, the story line sports a trim number of unrecognizable names and a large number of restatements and repetitions. Therefore it is easy to listen to very fast. Still, too much inner dialog and unnecessary wordiness for my taste, but some like it. The first book became more meaningful once I listened to books 2 and 3. As others have said, the series is worth more than one listening.

I thought this was a trilogy. Not so

Author needs to set expectations better. I am ready for this story to end.

Overall What I Expect from Brooks

I would have given the 5 start but for a few things. Overall the book was well worth the credit. I guess I'm getting a bit weary of the two brothers with weird names thing. Even the physical descriptions of the brothers is so close to another of his books, I found it kind of annoying, but this is a small issue. What bothered me the most was the slow pace of much of the book. There was a lot of dead space in the book, that really didn't advance the story line. I guess it could be called character development, but much of it was just fill. I'm going to start on the next book right away.
