Story
My hand trembles as I stare at the anonymous text. On this sunny Saturday morning, our twin ten-year-old boys were playing in the park just down our tree-lined street. But only one of them has come home… and it’s all my husband’s fault. I race to Leo’s study and demand answers. As his face turns white, I know: one of his affairs has turned deadly. I always smell the unfamiliar perfume on his shirt. I try to pretend we are a happy family, for the sake of the children… but now, my child is in terrible danger.

Story
Ren will do anything for her best friend, Anna. The news that Anna's daughter Charlotte has terminal brain cancer sends them on a desperate hunt for a cure and their only hope lies in an expensive European drug trial. Ren jumps on board Anna's fundraising efforts, willing to put everything on the line - her reputation in their close-knit community and all the money she can beg or borrow - to secure Charlotte's place. When the local charity drive quickly becomes a nationwide campaign, townspeople start asking questions about the trial. Questions Ren can't answer.

Story
Last night, we celebrated our anniversary. Over candlelight, we talked about the children, our work, and I was so happy, and felt so loved. But the next morning, when I check my phone, there is a message. From a friend. And a string of photos appear of my husband, Will, with another woman: walking along the street holding hands. Going into fancy hotels. Standing at a window, his arms around her, her head on his shoulder…

As the temperature rises, a body is found lying in the thick bush, bludgeoned to death. One of the four remaining guests is a murderer - but who, and why, is a mystery. Detective Dana Russo knows the national spotlight will be sharply focused on the case. The charity was formed when the founders' teenage son was killed after intervening in a vicious assault - sparking public outrage and a damning verdict on the investigation.

The blaze came out of nowhere one summer afternoon, a wall of fire fed by blustering wind. Yet, somehow, Alison is alive. She rode out the fire on the damp tiles of her bathroom, her entire body swaddled in a wet woolen blanket. As flames crackled around her, the bitter char of eucalyptus settled in the back of her throat, each breath more desperate than the last.

The view is a killer ...
Darkly compelling and twisty psychological drama from a talented new Australian author. Perfect for readers who love Sally Hepworth, Pip Drysdale and Adele Parks.
Will one mother's lie cost another woman her life?
Sleep deprived, struggling and at breaking point, first-time mum Gracie Michaels books one night - alone - at The Maxwell Hotel. A king-size bed all to herself. No demands. With time to recharge she'll be able to return to her family more like the unflappable mother she pretends to be.
Instead, she wakes in a room she doesn't recognise after an encounter with a man who is not her husband. Then she sees something she wishes she hadn't.
Being drawn into a crime was not something Gracie had planned for her hotel stay but when a distraught family appeals for information and a police investigation heats up she is trapped in a maze of lies.
To speak out jeopardises her marriage, but her silence threatens her son, her sanity and her safety. Will Gracie destroy her own family by telling the truth or devastate someone else's by keeping her secrets?
'A suspenseful, dark story that drew me in from the first page. The Eleventh Floor is shockingly unexpected with outcomes that feel completely realistic, alongside powerful moments of motherhood, marriage, trust and love, and a seeping sense of dread that will leave you shuddering.' - Jo Dixon, Australian bestselling author of The House of Now and Then
PRAISE FOR KYLIE ORR:
'A web of deception is spun, and creeping dread lurks behind the veneer of domesticity in this intense and realistic psychological thriller.' - WA Today
'Orr's novels explores the darker side of humanity and question our understanding of self and others.' - Weekend Australian, Noteable Books
'An unputdownable, one-sitting read.' - Better Reading
'Orr really ramps up the tension, emotion and general agitation of this novel ... the race is definitely on to get to the pulsating conclusion of this tale.' - Mrs B's Book Reviews
'Someone Else's Child is a captivating story. In the age of GoFundMe, it raises some very timely questions about friendship, ethics and loyalty.' - Eliza Henry-Jones, author of In The Quiet

The must-read book of 2024!
Remember last year when we all HAD to read YELLOWFACE because if we didn't we'd be left out of a raging discourse?
That's how I feel about THE ELEVENTH FLOOR by Queen Kylie Orr.
If you haven't read this, you are missing out on a salacious exchange punctuated by hushed tones and gasps. From a writerly perspective, this book is a masterclass in raising the stakes and complicating things for your protagonist. As a reader, this book will break you only to build you back up again and leave you better for it.
We all know the premise, right? A sleep deprived young mother checks into a hotel for one night of rest. But when she wakes up in a strange man's room and witnesses a crime from his eleventh floor window, life as she knows it will never be the same.
This book expertly walks a tightrope between unfathomable circumstances and the small kindnesses that make them endurable. This story flies a big old feminist flag and I. Am. Here. For. It!

The possibilities
It was powerful, captivating and a book hard to put down or stop listening to. The story, events and phrases will touch many people in different ways from different chapters. It is real.

Padded out
This book was far longer than it needed to be. A lot of waffle at times and the silly way she related people's names to colours, I found irritating. I get that she was depressed but think she did some truly silly things at the hotel.... before she was drugged.
