Publisher's Summary

The final shocking, heart-wrenching book in the jaw-droppingly stupendous Skulduggery Pleasant series. Valkerie. Darquesse. Stephanie. The world ain't big enough for the three of them. The end will come.

The War of the Sanctuaries has been won, but it was not without its casualties. Following the loss of Valkyrie Cain, Skulduggery Pleasant must use any and all means to track down and stop Darquesse before she turns the world into a charred, lifeless cinder. And so he draws together a team of soldiers, monster hunters, killers, criminals, and Valkyrie's own murderous reflection. The war may be over, but the final battle is about to begin. And not everyone gets out of here alive.

Ok. Sorta

I really enjoyed the previous books. This one was way to clever, twist wise, for its own good. That actually made the story less engaging and less cohesive.

It was ok

I've enjoyed other books in the series, but this one was really dragged out. Definitely recommend the first three books instead.

Very good close

For an ending it was very good, it included all the elements it should have with some little surprises too. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all.

loose ends

i liked the story but thought that Dannys story was quite loose and a bit awkward.
it took up too much of the book itself

An awesome conclusion to a fantastic book series

The books have just got better and better throughout the series. The narration is fantastic, the pace fast and the story engaging and unpredictable. Loved every minute of it.

Rather lukewarm

For the end of a series as strong as skulduggery pleasant, the last in the series seems rather forced and contrived at points
The message is there, the ideas are there, but there's a feeling of forced heroic survival in the whole piece
Very few central characters die and few things are truly resolved leaving me to believe that this end came around faster than Landy expected

The performance of Hogan was brilliant he captured the characters perfectly

It's just - this doesn't feel like an end and that's what bothers me

The perfect ending to a brilliant series

Would you listen to The Dying of the Light, Skulduggery Pleasant, Book 9 again? Why?

Yes, definitely. I often listen/read the rest of the series, so it follows....

Who was your favorite character and why?

Fletcher Renn - teleporters can take you anywhere. It's got to be the next best thing to flying!

What does Stephen Hogan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I really like Rupert Degas' interpretations of the characters in the first few books and I struggle with Stephen Hogan's narration sometimes as a result. Although this is nothing to do with Hogan's narration or ability, it's simply that everyone sounds different. When I read the books on paper, it's Degas I hear, so I'm afraid Hogan brings confusion.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, both.

Any additional comments?

All the threads are brought together here and there are plenty of shocks and surprises, ups and downs. I am really sad it's all over.
