About this listen

It is 1953 and Melbourne society is looking forward to coronation season, the grand balls and celebrations for the young queen-to-be. Tilly Dunnage is, however, working for a pittance in a second-rate Collins Street salon. Her talents go unappreciated, and the madame is a bully and a cheat, but Tilly has a past she is desperate to escape and good reason to prefer anonymity.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Farrat and the McSwiney clan have been searching for their resident dressmaker ever since she left Dungatar in flames. And they aren't the only ones. The inhabitants of the town are still out for revenge (or at least someone to foot the bill for the new high street). So when Tilly's name starts to feature in the fashion pages, the jig is up. Along with Tilly's hopes of keeping her secrets hidden...

Absolutely loved this follow up book. Caroline Lee is a fabulous narrator and bought the characters to life. Twist and turns provided a story line that could not be guessed. I personally preferred this book to the first.

Better than the first

The comedy and chaos of the first book, bundled with the persistence of Tilly… working hard to make it right and get what’s hers!
Bravo!

I still don’t feel like Tilly’s story is over.. I still want more!

I loved The Dressmaker's Secret! I saw the movie and enjoyed this sequel. The attention to detail with regard to the dresses and costumes painted a vivid picture. I loved the very Australian accents too and as I grew up in the 50's this evoked memorable moments of my mother's and auntie's dressing styles. Bernice Vergou

Funny and clever but a bit too long so that it became annoying sometimes.

Surely there was a better way to end this story...

I loved the first book, but this one feels too forced.

An average story

As soon as I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. I loved The Dressmaker so much when I read it. But obviously that meant I was worried I'd be disappointed. Alas, there was no need to worry! A wonderful sequel to one of my favourite books.

An excellent sequel!

A very mixed up story and very hard to follow. I don't give up on books often, but I did on this one.

Confusing
