Two and a half decades ago, Ascended Master Teachers Arten and Pursah appeared to Gary Renard and held a series of conversations with him that elaborated on the teachings of two spiritual classics, The Gospel of Thomas and A Course in Miracles. My husband and I finally feel we’ve found the answer we’ve been looking for (which we’ve always known but struggled to pin point it). From studying Christianity, Eckhart Tolle, Byron Katie, Buddhism, Taoism and others this feels like we have finally come home. Our next step to study ACIM. Thank you so much Gary (or Thomas!) for sharing this with us and helping us find our way back.

Opened my eyes to ACIM
I had tried to read A Course in Miracles years ago but simply could not understand the text and always put it down. This audio program helped open my eyes to what the book was trying to say and got me interested in reading it again.
The audio is well done, and while Gary doesn't have the professional public speaker type voice he does a good job of narrating.
If you were curious of a course in miracles or had tried to study the course and found it difficult to follow I recommend this audio as a good primer.
Thanks Gary, it got me started back on that path.

Solid Content With Bad Form
I already read the text prior to purchasing the audio book, so my expectations as to the content were already set. The book reads quickly (took me about a day) and its message is solid. In contrast, the audio book (in my opinion) is rather loathsome to listen to. Something was certainly lost in the translation from print to audio.
As another reviewer mentioned, the person who plays the part of Arten has a radio announcer voice; while Pursah is played by Doreen Virtue, a familiar voice (if one listens to Hay House Radio). I think those two factors diminished the content considerably. They took away from the message more than they gave.
The only believable person in the audio book is Gary Renard himself. Then again, it was he who had the actual experience; not the other two.
However, as I considered it, I realized that this was one of those situations where I would be called upon to forgive. Could it have been done better? Without question it could have. Yet how many of us could have done it perfectly? Probably none.
Let this be a lesson to us all who seek the Truth: We screw up even the purest of messages with our own hands, try as we might to do otherwise. It is almost inevitable. Best to forgive it and take the content of what we're given; leaving the form behind.
If you're averse to reading a 150,000 word book, this audio format is just fine. The content is all there, just as it is in the book, and the audio quality is high and well recorded. But if you've heard Doreen and the other guy before, one can't help but be distracted by them.
I think the author should seriously consider redoing this book using real actors; perhaps ones with a heavy spiritual inclination, in order to capture the essence of not only the message, but of his overall experience.

Some interesting ideas; narrators are awful
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
no. Although many if the ideas were thought provoking, the narrators, especially Gary, were so bad it detracted from the listening experience.
Has The Disappearance of the Universe turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but I would never buy another audible in which Gary was one of the narrators.
What aspect of the narrators’s performance would you have changed?
I would have had someone other than the author narrate the author's part. Gene sounded like a bad parody of a radio DJ. Doreen was pretty good.
Was The Disappearance of the Universe worth the listening time?
Barely. The content was somewhat interesting, but the narration was so bad, I didn't really enjoy the book.
Any additional comments?
I looked through other offerings authored by Gary Renard but found that he was also the narrator in all of them so I didn't purchase any.

Content vs. Form
The content of "The Disappearance of the Universe" includes some eye-opening and worthwhile concepts for students of New Age spirituality. It frankly acts as a sort of advertisement for and clarification of "A Course in Miracles," but its ideas are certainly available to anyone, regardless of their exposure , to the earlier work.
The audiobook, however, is a perfect example of What Not To Do. The author, whose voice is so nasal and sinusy as to border on the loathesome, has insisted on reading his own work. Another spiritual author, Doreen Virtue, reads the part of Persa, the female spiritual guide, while an obviously professional reader, with a slick, radio-type announcer voice, reads the words of Arten, the male spiritual guide, and makes them sound like an infomercial.
The mix is so bizarre as to make the content difficult to approach. Fortunately, the sections the author reads are very brief, and the more listenable voices of the other two readers constitute the majority of te work.
Don't listen with good earphones unless you want to know all about the sinus condition of the author. Sorry, Audible: this is one I wish I'd bought on paper and read with my eyes, 'cause my ears are annoyed.

I have listening to this book a few times now and each time I get something new from it that I didn't get the first time. I've learned so much from Gary, Pursah & Arten and am forever grateful for their words of wisdom & encouragement. I have started applying some of the forgiveness techniques whenever I have any sort of problem or an "un-settling" feeling come up... and let me say what a difference it has made in my life already. I highly recommend this book, and I have gone on to purchase two more of Gary's books as well. Bravo.

Uncertain about this
The story seems to be that, a couple of cosmic celestial beings turned up at some dude's house, explained to him the historical inaccuracies in the Christian story, told him a bit about the importance of forgiveness, and then instructed him to do A Course in Miracles.
Some of this resonates, but I'm undecided about it's authenticity and usefulness.

The Course Revisited
Interesting read/listen and well worth taking in metaphorically rather than literally. Stories and narratives are never the truth in themselves but point to the truth - and this book is a great signpost!
People, me of course included, tend to make fixed interpretations of things we learn rather than keeping our minds flexible and open. This, in my ‘nobody’ viewpoint, is how religion hijacked spirituality and turned a simple message into cults with loyalty cards. I would like a version of the Course, similar to this book, done from an independent perspective rather than a Christian one. I was brought up a Christian but quite early on in my childhood at Sunday school had a strong sense that what was being taught was distorted (even if well intentioned). Let’s stop being divisive and embrace a spirituality that joins us all - we are one!

Very entertaining
I found this nice and lighthearted and entertaining. I'm pretty sure I don't believe what is described ACTUALLY happened but I still give it 5 stars because regardless, it is a great story and definitely makes me feel better about life :)

Unusual
Unusual book since it comes from an ordinary man who would be fun to hang out with. No guru stuff. Simple, honest, revelatory.

5 stars are not enough
I've read the book a few years ago and now I listened to the audiobook. There are no words to describe how good this made me feel.
Thank you Gary for this amazing work!

I couldn't switch it off!
Some of the most exciting material I heard so far. I am a student if A Course in Miracles and I haven't always completely understood each lesson. This audio has put the entire course into perspective and something has clicked! Loved the content, delivered with humility and humour. I shall be listening to this over and over as well as Gary's other titles.

An interesting take on Christianity
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Narrators voice is a bit robotic, although I do like the fact that it is the genuine author.
What did you like best about this story?
Gives you a taste of avenues you may want to pursue in finding out a more factual take on events with Christ, rather than just a 'bilble-ised' version.
Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrators?
Yes, if it had similar content on the same subject, although I would say that it could be narrated better.
Do you think The Disappearance of the Universe needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Yes, because it leaves unanswered questions, did he pursue that he may have been hallucinating. Did his wife every get to meet the same people who are central to his book. What were the 365 daily insight's of wisdom that are meant to help us on our way to god?
Any additional comments?
Essentially good subject matter, even interesting whether it was a manifestation of his mind rather than a visitation. Good have been presented a little better, author has a kind of robotic Stephen Hawkins ring to his voice which is a bit hard to listen to continually.
That being said, I did pretty much listen to it end-to-end in one day, so it wasn't impossible to listen to.
