Story
Lucretia ‘Crecy’ Holbrook has a secret, a secret she has kept for many years. Even her dearest confidant and sister, Belle, would not understand what Crecy is prepared to do, the risks she is prepared to take, to get her heart’s desire. For Crecy is not like the other smiling débutantes; she despises poetry, thinks dancing a chore, and is quite prepared to throw something at the next fool to compare her to Aphrodite. Far more likely to return from a country walk with a badger’s skull and some bloody, injured creature than a posy of wildflowers, Crecy is drawn to the dark, the damaged, and the unlovable. Her heart longs for one man alone, one with a wounded soul, one so dreadfully damaged that even her tender care might not be enough to save him.

Senorita Lucia de Feria is possibly the most beautiful woman in the world and beyond a doubt the most beautiful that Viscount Cavendish has ever seen. Yet this mysterious beauty is up to something, something that has Cavendish convinced that her motives are less than pure. The viscount needs no further motivation to spend time in lovely Lucia’s company, but desire and intrigue make for unholy temptation. Lucia is not everything she seems to be. Lucia has secrets...secrets one man would kill her for.
Publisher's Summary
Dishonoured and ashamed, the ton's scandalous darling, "Beau" the Marquess of Beaumont, is forced to flee England to escape debtor's prison.
After a chance encounter, it appears Miss Millicent Sparrow is his only remaining friend, however unlikely.
Miss Sparrow lives up to her name. Damaged and terrified by her cousin's violent abuse, Milly is used to being overlooked and prefers it that way, until the desperation of her bleak world is gilded by rakishly handsome Beau's extraordinary friendship.
Miss Sparrow’s lively letters help Beau through his banishment and when his father dies suddenly and Beau inherits the Dukedom, he seeks out his little bird. To his shock he finds a woman in despair and, moved by pity, he offers her the protection of his name by marriage.
But Milly becomes impossible to overlook, and the more Beau needs his wife, the less interested she seems in her gorgeous husband.
For this rake, getting a woman's attention has never been so complicated.

Excellent story and narration
I have to admit that I love EVL, and her books in this series are an automatic purchase. Having said that this is one of the best books I have read.
The story of how a quiet, abused, but strong heroine blossoms into a wonderful woman is just a delight. There are several books with an ugly duckling to swan trope. In this book it is done with such detail and through natural evolution that it is so believable. The important part is not that the heroine becomes suddenly beautiful, but gains the confidence that was suppressed by her earlier abuse/fear. She uses all her abilities to become a woman she is proud of and that makes her husband comes to respect, like and then love her. Every woman should have this opportunity to bloom into such an amazing person.
The hero is a little tarnished from the previous book ( you really have to read the previous book to get the full effect of his transformation). Where he was to where he ends up is an exercise in true growth and maturity. This is about how 2 people that ar good for each other and coming together makes them into better people. They help and support each other to gain a wonderful relationship.
Philip Battley is just one of the best narrators around, especially when the story has a lot of dialogue. He performs a book like very few narrators. He puts in every chuckle, laugh, sniff and "bark" of laughter. you can tell he has read the material and planned how to narrate it to it's best. I just love his voice and wish that he would read more books. luckily he seems to have this series nailed down...so more well crafted performances to come!!
I can't recommend this book enough. I have just finished and am going back to start it all over again. The h/h in this story makes me hope and believe that a HEA might just be real.

Books 1- 10
**Review's for books 1-10**
Narrator did a very good job giving life to all character's and distinguishing them.
Book 1- Very good story kept me riveted and engaged from start to finish and looking forward to more.
Book 2- Same as the first.
Book 3- Really loved this tale over the 1st and 2nd.
Book 4- So far this one is my most favorite amongst the 10 I've read. I absolutely adored Beau and Millie.
Book 5- This is where thing's start going south for me. I just loved Aubrey in the previous books but he was too young and submissive for my taste in this one. The whole story lacked EVERYTHING it's previous stories did. I also didn't like Violette.
Book 6- Was a chore and found Edward and Belle a bit boring and more wanting to know more about Clercy instead.
Book 7- Here's where I really get upset! Half or more of this book I had already read in book 6!! This is a huge pet peeve of mine when author's do this because we're not getting a FULL fresh book at all but still paying for something we've already bought!! UGH!! This story was beyond ridiculous also and I truly hated it. It left me mad and upset. Gabriel was such a weak "hero" that I laugh at even thinking him to be considered one. He's actually the opposite of a hero. Clercy was portrayed too perfect and accepting, which I was expecting to see more, even a damn ghost or two but NADA!! Although I appreciated her blunt approach, she's just far too young and inexperienced to be so "perfect " which made this entire story just too far fetched and unbelievable.
Book 8- Again, another submissive Male which is a turn off and a female that's unremarkable. Predictable tale with nothing new.
Book 9- I enjoyed this one and hoped that the author found her lost mojo of bringing back the joy I found in the first few of the series.
Book 10- I was wrong because this was yet again a huge disappointment. I will stop here and save my money and time on finding another author.

Redemption
Loved the 4th book in the series!! Bo not only was recovering from being shot by his best friend but he needed to flee before his creditors caught up with him. Millie just wanted to be safe. Her and Bo started an unlikely friendship and they wrote to each other while he was in exile in France. When his father died and he became the new Duke he new he was going to do things differently.
After Millie had another attacked cause by her cousin Bo knew he needed to keep her safe and offered her a marriage of convenience. What Bo didn’t know was that she already loved him. A wonderful story where our Hero not only gets his redemption but also the woman he loves!!’

Loved it!
Loved this story. Both Beau and Milly came across as lovely people. They start off as friends and grow close. The story is more involved than that and you will enjoy the ride through their lives.
The narrator is fabulous and makes you love and hate the characters.
If you decide to get this book and love romance I'm sure you will like this.
