About this listen

Continuing the impressive debut fantasy series from author Peter V. Brett, The Desert Spear is book two of the Demon Cycle, pulling the reader into a world of demons, darkness and heroes.

The Deliverer has returned, but who is he?

Arlen Bales, formerly of the small hamlet of Tibbet’s Brook, learnt harsh lessons about life as he grew up in a world where hungry demons stalk the night and humanity is trapped by its own fear. He chose a different path; chose to fight inherited apathy and the corelings, and eventually he became the Painted Man, a reluctant saviour.

But the figure emerging from the desert, calling himself the Deliverer, is not Arlen. He is a friend and betrayer, and though he carries the spear from the Deliverer’s tomb, he also heads a vast army intent on a holy war against the demon plague… and anyone else who stands in his way.

I only give 4 stars as it's not quite as good as other fantasies such as The Storm light archive or things written by Feist but it's still quite good. the narrator is also a talented voice actor which is a nice bonus.

pretty darn good

Loved the story! Is one my favourite series. I highly recommend the hard copy as Colin Mace isn't very good at reading. The swallowing and deep sighs are distracting.

Great

Never would I thought a story introducing an arabic-inspired setting would be so interesting. The author paints it in such vivid and visceral colours and the narrator is perfect for this series. The rise of a Warrior through the ranks of his brethren to become Sharum, learning about white witches and their dice prophecies, a peek at book 1 from a different perspective. so much to look forward to!

Two epic fantasy settings collided!

This is my second read through of the series and I am finding small things I missed the first time around. I understand more of the characters’ purposes and intentions now.

Inevra and Leesha’s natural disdain for each other is very present and it brings me a lot of joy reading it again.

Highly recommend

Another masterpiece of interwoven magic and world building
