The Demon’s in the Detail

Can a sexy demon really spin straw into gold?

Poe Dupin, raven shifter and thief extraordinaire, is in trouble with a capital ‘T.’ Not only did he get his wing caught in the cookie jar during his latest heist, but his loser stepdad, the alpha, seems determined to run their roost into the ground. And Baltimore is many things, but forgiving is not on the list.

When his stepdad puts the roost in peril, Poe sees no choice but to bargain with Charm City’s only demon, Tommy Tittoti. Rumors are that Tommy eats the souls of those foolish enough to try. Three strikes and you’re out. But really, Poe wasn’t using his soul anyway. And if it saves his roost? Worth it.

Tommy isn’t what Poe expects. Demon - huge, horned, hairy, and scary, right? Nope. Blond, gorgeous, with a bubble butt, and a lilting drawl that beckons Poe to come play. Total hookup-app fantasy material. Even if he is a murder twink.

Poe’s no angel, but Tommy...well he’s more devil than demon. Yet, Poe just can’t seem to keep his feathers out of the fire. As one bargain turns into two, and then a third tragedy strikes the ravens, Poe finds himself falling for a guy who may very literally be the death of him. Or maybe the flames will burn them both.

The Demon’s in the Details is a fast-paced roller coaster of a romance with a guaranteed HEA and lots of steam. Shenanigans include: a gold object that is definitely not a ring, a best friend who’s trigger-happy, and a demon who’s got a few surprises up his, uh, sleeve.

Fantastic urban fantasy romance!

This couldn’t have been more perfect! Things are going from bad to worse for petty thief and raven shifter, Poe Dupin, as he tries to protect the roost from his alpha / stepdad and a basilisk crime boss. In desperation he gets more than he bargained for when he makes a deal with demon, Tommy Tittoti. I love urban fantasies and Meghan Maslow has created a wonderful and easily grasped supernatural world without any info-dumping. Both Poe and Tommy could easily make poor choices but their decency resists this. The dangers and action scenes were scary and compelling without being gratuitously violent and the story had lots of lovely characters and humour. Greg Boudreaux narrated the audio expertly, giving Tommy a deliciously slight southern drawl. Utterly enjoyable!

Best voice actor in the biz

Definitely listen to this book! This was a GREAT story, but we need to recognize Greg Boudreaux/Greg Tremblay as the magical touch for this audiobook. Any book that he narrates is made 90% better by his acting. If you haven't listened to other stories read by him, you need to do! There are some great narrators out there with sexy voices: Joe Arden, Sebastian York, Teddy Hamilton, Zachary Webber. But Greg's voice and acting is just peerless! He's the Michael Phelps of voice acting. (BTW, Andi Arndt is the female equivalent.) Check out Drawn Together by ZA Maxfield and The Quarterback by MacKenzie Blair, And Muscle and Bone by Mary Calmes. So good!

Good. The bad guys were so evil it was distressing

The Raven shifter, Poe, was stuck with an abusive stepfather/alpha. He was beyond horrible and well-matched with the evil crime boss, Briggs. Chapter after chapter of their cruelty weighed on me. Poe did the best he could for his fellow ravens but the bad guys kept upping the stakes. It does work out in the end but it was a difficult journey. Greg Boudreaux was exceptional and the only reason I didn't quit and return the book.

📖 Story comment: I was thoroughly entertained by The Demon's in the Details. It only took about an hour for me to be completely invested in the story. The world building is cleaver, the characters entertaining and it's been a while since the bad guys were REALLY bad guys. (... sorry - not sorry, they got what they deserved!).

🎧 Narrator comment: *** sighs **** I love Greg Boudreaux as a narrator. Every book he narrates is a master performance. He has a good range of characters so its easy to distinguish them from each other. Has good cadence, inflections and intonations, and he really knows how to bring characters and their story to life.

Greg Boudreaux! Always a pleasure to hear him!

Raven shifter Poe Dupin's stepdad alpha Evan puts their entire roost in danger because of a huge gambling debt totaling $80,000. Even as a premier thief, Poe knows he is unable to raise that amount of money. When his friend suggests he approached the demon Tommy Tittoti with the problem, Poe feels he has no choice. His much younger half-siblings and the other members of the roost are depending on him. And it isn't the first time he's saved them from his stepfather's selfish choices, incompetence, and irresponsibility. Challenging him as the roost's alpha won't work either as the alpha's power is a synergistic combination of the power of ALL ravens in the roost.
Poe visits Tommy at his place of business, a barbershop where he is known to administer more than a shave and a haircut. Expect to encounter an enormous monstrosity, Poe finds a gorgeous, blonde, and small-statured twinky demon! Just the kind of man Poe may not find too hard to work with after all. But it is a demon's nature to bargain for any requests made of them and Tommy is no different. However, he never expects to do business with a person like Poe who is so giving, protective, selfless--and handsome!
Writer Meghan Maslow gives readers a special treat with her awesome retelling of the fairy tale Rumplestiltskin. Setting it in Baltimore, the home of Edgar Allan Poe who famous poem is titled "The Raven", the author builds an incredible world filled with shifters and other supernatural beings--each with their own particular gifts and abilities. The city forms the backdrop for turf wars and battles between paranormal factions that allow for extensive development of the main characters both in the relationship between themselves and amongst the other players in the story. The writer is especially imaginative in designing a demon who, in spite of his basic nature, was able to win the readers' hearts. The challenges and conflicts for the protagonists are also well imagined. The resolutions and conclusions are absolutely brilliant. This writer continues to amaze me with her stories and I am wanting for more of just anything she writes!
As a native of Baltimore City Maryland, this story is near and dear to my heart for so many reasons. The world Meghan Maslow creates from Baltimore is awesome, especially for those readers like me who are familiar (and in love) with its neighborhoods, landmarks, and history. The Bromoseltzer Tower! Yes, there's a fire department right there. And Fort McHenry? A school trip was scheduled there every year of elementary and middle school! Yes, Francis Scott Key penned the American national anthem "The Star-Spangled Banner" as he observed the British bombardment of Fort McHenry in 1814 during the War of 1812. He was inspired upon seeing the American flag still flying over the fort at dawn. And Key's Highway? It's named in honor of Francis Scott and passes the Domino Sugar plant where my father worked until he died in 1999. Here's hoping this tale becomes book one of a series or, at the very least, a trilogy.

Read it ASAP

I loved this story and Greg Boudreaux ::sighs:: best narrator ever!. He’s my #1 favorite narrator and I’m never ever disappointed with his performance. I hope there is a second book coming. I would love to read/listen to Ollie’s and Garret’s story. I wonder if author ever reads audiobook reviews….

Enjoyed It a Lot

This book was a very entertaining listen, I loved it from start to finish. Both Poe and Tommy likable and unique characters by themselves and so adorable together. Narrator did a great job and was a perfect voice for the story IMO. Can't wait for more books by this author & narrator team.

Exceptional!!!

5+++ Stars!!!

This book was just what I needed! So, I was a little hungover after my last read and I needed something different, so I decided to listen to this book even if it wasn't its turn yet in my reading schedule. Let me tell you... best decision ever!

I absolutely adored Tommy, he was so much fun, and even if we don't get his POV, he wore his heart on his sleeve for everyone but oblivious Poe to see. LOL. And Poe, well, he was definitely my favorite, but how could he not be with how responsible, supportive, sarcastic, self-deprecating, and downright amazing he was? Tommy and Poe were soooo great together, hot and sweet, and everything in between.

I loved Kennedy, Poe's best friend, she was bada**, the twins and Ollie. And I hated Ethan and Brigs with the fire of a thousand suns and was more than happy with their comeuppance. Hahaha

The combination between Meghan Maslow's words and Greg Boudreaux was exceptional. I laughed out loud several times, I found myself crying at others, and I absolutely loved every single moment of this fabulous story. I wouldn't mind reading more in this 'verse, Garrett and Ollie also need a story. Hell, I'll even read Kennedy and Abel's even if I don't read all that much MF any longer.

Definitely recommendable!

exceptional performance of an excellent book

I liked the book, but Greg elevated it to whole new level. The characters were brought to life so vividly in this take on Rumplestiltskin. One of the best audible books I've listened to in a long time

Ten out of ten

Meghan Marlow did it again, as good as the Starfig investigations series and as for Greg Boudreaux perfect as always.
