At the local state university, two feuding departments have faced off on the battleground of PC culture. Each carries their views to extremes that may seem absurd, but highly educated people of sound mind and good intentions can reasonably disagree, right? Then someone winds up dead, and Virgil Flowers is brought in to investigate...and he soon comes to realise he's dealing with people who, on this one particular issue, are functionally crazy.

Publisher's Summary
International bestselling author Jeffery Deaver explores the borderline between lies and loyalty in a story of a brotherhood on the brink.
In the wake of a disastrous firefight with a Mexican cartel, two El Paso police officers find themselves in a military hospital facing a debriefing about what went wrong. As their accounts unfold, Tony, a by-the-book cop, begins to believe that hotheaded Matt might have divided loyalties. Could he have intentionally led the team into a trap that saw the death of a beloved senior officer? Or is the truth even more terrifying than Tony dares to imagine?

Foul language
Audible maybe you should consider doing some sort of a language rating. I don’t care how good the story might be I don’t intend to listen to the F word being used practically every other word. I couldn’t get past the first five minutes. I’m sure the author would say he was trying to make the story realistic. If you’re going to do that by lacing every sentence with filthy language, just say so. I won’t buy it. Then I won’t have to return it, which I did.

Thrilling Short with Excellent Twists & Turns
This was my first book from this author. I love the Kindle singles since they give you an opportunity to sample an author's work without a large time commitment. This was a fantastic thriller with excellent twists and turns I did not see coming. A fast paced excellent short. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audio book. Scott Merriman did a wonderful job on the narration. I have a few other short stories from this author to sample.

Great short listen!! Patrick Warburton??
Love anything by Jeffery Deaver!! This is no disappointment with all the expected unexpected twists and turns!! I also found it amusing that the narrator does a voice for one of the characters that I thought sounded like a dead on impression of Patrick Warburton!!!

A walk through a stereotypical drug bust
An attempted arrest of Mexican cartel members gone wrong with one officer dead and the team in the hospital, this aftermath short novel requires extreme concentration, especially if you're not up on military talk. Officer Tony Wright, a municipal officer is questioned by FBI when a senior officer is killed in the line of duty. It's extremely simplistic, but the characters and their very background seems done out of convenience more than actual development. It's a stereotypical drug bust; there was a setup, the survivors are questioned separately, loyalties are questioned, and who is ultimately responsible is meant to be mysterious but for me it was more "Yes, I knew that" and "Thank goodness it's over." Not my favorite and it's a quite forgettable short story, but I'm also not much for military tales.
