    Feb 8 2018

[Contains explicit content] It's called the Dark Web, Dark Net or Deep Web but what is it? What makes this internet underground — rife with drugs, sex, and crime — possible? How do you even access the Dark Web?

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, has been looking into its shady origins and reveals why the U.S. Navy invented it in the first place.

  • Ep. 2: The Untold Story of The Dark Web
    Feb 8 2018

[Contains explicit content] The Dark Web's first success story was a drugs 'eBay.' Vendors sold narcotics and pharmaceuticals directly to each other freely and anonymously. Then the FBI shut it down and unmasked its owner, Ross Ulbricht. The sting operation was ridiculous.

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, speaks with a key player at the heart of the takedown. His story is astonishing.

  • Ep. 3: Bitcoin's Days Are Numbered
    Feb 8 2018

[Contains explicit content] If money makes the world go around, then Bitcoin keeps The Dark Web spinning. But what it is and how does it work? How can you run a currency based on trust when everyone who uses it is anonymous?

Geoff White, Channel 4 News's former Technology Reporter, uncovers the mystery of Bitcoin — and speaks to the Royal Mint about this potential competitor currency.

Surprising, insightful and enjoyable!

I highly recommended this series to everyone. I leaned a lot and it clarified many concepts relating to the dark web. I was very surprised at some of the things I learned. Geoff White is fantastic in his presentation and highly professional. I really enjoyed listening to the series. I'll be keeping an eye for more titles by Geoff White.

Good start but then derails into political agenda

What I came for was to hear more about darknet and sure enough first few episodes does that well, but then the author smuggles in his political agenda which was where he lost me.

One sided

Rather sexist - spyware "used against wives, girlfriends and partners". Shameful and weak. Can't bring themselves to acknowledge domestic abuse against men.

Amateur hour

The dark web is a fascinating topic, but I learnt nothing new here. The production was clearly done extremely cheap, with poor audio recordings featuring background noise and static. The fact the author is a journalist explains the typical style of mainstream media over-dramatisation of the content including the annoying intro/outro of every episode. Speaking of which, the journalist really should not be narrating his own content with a lisp.

This is an amazing topic, but you should look elsewhere (American Kingpin) for less biased, higher quality content.
