Publisher's Summary

Debbie Ford explains that the dark side of our personality should not be hidden. By denying our dark side, we reject these aspects of our true natures rather than giving ourselves the freedom to live authentically. Here she shows that it is possible to acknowledge and accept our so-called weaknesses, proving that these qualities may be important, hidden strengths. For example, perhaps some "selfishness" can save us from exhaustion and resentment.

Full of illuminating stories and practical exercises, Debbie Ford shows us how to reconcile our darker impulses and find the gifts they offer. Your life will be transformed when you unconceal, own, and embrace your shadow.

Great book and I would combine it with others

I started this book and was guided to stop at the point in the book where you start to work with your Shadow. Now up to this point the book was great! Go through all the lessons and work through them even if it takes you weeks to do it. Then pause it and read: Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One all the way to the point of the meditations or the last three hours if you're listening on Audible. Then go back and finish this book. It's quite the push in the right direction! If you want you can add the book Nothing Changes Until You Do. Great sequence of books I've found really works!

Who do you need to talk to on your bus?

The exercises are so helpful in facing your inner self and dark sides which you have denied your whole life. My favorite is discovering who is on your bus and what they need from you. It has been life changing.

These exercises are not one and done. They are ongoing and you'll come back to them time and time again as you grow. It has helped me remove confusion from situations and become gentler and more at peace.

If you are on that journey of discovery this is a must read. I will admit I was pushed to this book for months then finally I said, ok! I'll read the dang thing! I had so much resistance but since finishing the book Debbie has changed my perspective and I haven't heard one more word about the book or had it recommended. So if you're being pushed, read it, there's a reason.

Game changer!

This was a difficult book to listen to and it took me some time only because it is hard to look at your shadow side, weaknesses and all. The path of learning to love and accept yourself COMPLETELY is one that we will all continually be on and never come to the end of. This book is a great beginning and guide to creating a life of love and fulfillment.

Awesome Life-changing Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have recommended this book a lot. If you are stuck in victim mode or blame spiral this is a compassionate look at yourself and your triggers. The meditations are really simple and just persevere with the work and incredible results are possible in a short time.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Debbie's sharing of her life story is so useful.

T

you are ready to embrace both sides of yourself. What a fabulous audiobook If you are ready to embrace both sides of yourself, break through that barrier and become whole then this is the book for you.

Fabulous meditations and cleverly put together. It was just what I needed to help me through a really terrifying time. I felt as though I had just jumped if a cliff with no safety nets or harness. I found it a fabulous tool to assist me in a break through. Highly recommend

listen to it and then listen to it again!

I love to understand why we do what we do as human beings and the patterns we have developed. this book is the one book which really highlights this and actionable realistic steps to heal them. it's not repetative it's not long winded stories to get to a point that could be summed up in a sentence. it's fascinating and i have bought the physical book as well so I can go back and highlight everything.

Doesn't seem to be backed up by solid research

The ideas didn't click for me. I found myself scoffing at a few of the pieces of evidence she was submitting against her ideas.

a classic on discovering yourself

the late debbie ford has some great insights, delivered in a gentle way on embracing the parts of ourselves we are constantly trying to hid.
i find her voice a bit slow for my tastes so i listened at 1.25x the talking speed and that worked for me.
