Publisher's Summary

Get ready for another binge-worthy romance from New York Times best-selling author Elle Kennedy!

College was supposed to be my chance to get over my ugly-duckling complex and spread my wings. Instead, I wound up in a sorority full of mean girls. I already have a hard time fitting in, so when my Kappa Chi sisters issue the challenge, I can’t say no.

The dare: Seduce the hottest new hockey player in the junior class.

Conor Edwards is a regular at Greek Row parties...and in Greek Row sorority beds. He’s the one you fall for before you learn that guys like him don’t give girls like me a second glance. Except Mr. Popular throws me for a loop - rather than laughing in my face, he does me a solid by letting me take him upstairs to pretend we’re getting busy.

Even crazier, now he wants to keep pretending. Turns out Conor loves games, and he thinks it’s fun to pull the wool over my frenemies’ eyes.

But resisting his easy charm and surfer-boy hotness is darn near impossible. Though I’m realizing there’s much more to Conor’s story than his fan club can see.

And the longer this silly ruse goes on, the greater the danger of it all blowing up in my face.

Good but annoying

It was well written, but the main character Taylor just really pissed me off, without giving too much away I found myself constantly thinking “for fucks sake Taylor” multiple times throughout the book, so much so it haven off putting, I nearly didn’t finish it because I found her so stupid

Low angst, fast past read

I loved the off-campus/briar u series! This was probably one of my favs as the main characters find each other straight away and their relationship kicks off quickly. Super low angst with a little bit of drama that gets in the way briefly a couple of times.

The book touches on some important issues such as body image/ body shaming & self confidence/ self worth issues. Both main characters struggled with self worth issues but for different reasons.

I absolutely loved the connection with Taylor’s mum & Connor’s coach. Each scene around this development was absolutely hilarious, I couldn’t stop laughing.

My favourite scene from the whole book was when Connor’s step father come to see him. That got me right in the feels. 😭

I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get much of an update of the other characters in this book. We don’t really see much of the previous main characters in this book apart from Hunter, Brenna, Demi & Summer once or twice. I thought being the last book of the series there might be more of an epilogue regarding more of the characters but we only get a glimpse into their summer in California.

Over all I enjoyed the book and loved the narrators. Teddy is my fav!!!

Journey of rediscovery, Briar U all the way

Devoured this book in a day. Taylor and Conor are described as being physically different but I loved how Kennedy explored how insecurities can come in all forms. Loved watching these two lean on each other on a journey of rediscovery. Stick with it...its worth the listen ❤️

👏

Wow! That was a powerful storyline with very powerful statements with hard topics from body image shaming, to college sorority hazing, sexual harassment/assault, breaking and entering, burglary, blackmail and low self-esteem/self-worth issues.
The love story is really quite beautiful and messy but real.

Loved it

What's not to love about a story that has Teddy Hamilton as the narrator. In the continuation of the Briar U series I think I liked this one the best. New story line that incorporates just enough of the characters from the previous books where it does not make you feel like you just read the same story. Appropriately titled a dare turns into a real relationship that has its own challenges but it makes you feel outside of the dare these are real issues (body shaming) that college students go through.

Not a fav....

3 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️
I was really looking forward to reading The Dare, specially after getting done reading The Play which I loved, but ended up being a little disappointed. Taylor’s insecurities were so annoying, to the point I wanted to slap her! Omg stop fat shaming yourself and authors just STOP fat shaming altogether!

I thought Conor was more of a alpha male, but he was seriously a disappointment in this book. He kinda was on the wimpy side.
Plus I was very disappointed in him regarding what he did after Taylor and him broke up. If you say you love someone, then just maybe the first thing you do NOT do is go out and hookup.

The Dare started off really good and I was even laughing so hard in chapter 2, but then the storyline fell apart. I started losing interest and just wanted it to end. It just became the same story that every other book has....Video tape leaks out, psycho bitch turns nice....blah blah blah. Anyhow The Dare wasn’t one of Elle Kennedy‘s best...

Audiobook review: 5 stars! I can’t say it enough Teddy Hamilton is always awesome! I can listen to his voice for hours. lol Elizabeth Louise was fabulous! They both are wonderful narrators...

Mixed Bag for me

I liked the performances, especially Teddy Hamilton who is always amazing. Elizabeth Louise did the best she could with what she had to work with. I didn't love Taylor, all her many insecurities or how she treated Connor at times. The fat shaming was a bit much. The book had some fantastic moments of humor, which kept me listening. I loved the Briar U setting and the hockey players who seemed like old friends from previous books.

SPOILER: One of the things that bothered me the most was the portrayal of the sorority. A hazing event took place off page that resulted in one of the key conflicts for the main characters. The sorority sisters who perpetrated the hazing in the first place never faced any consequences and the treatment of the pledges was completely normalized even though it far reaching negative consequences for their lives and relationships.

Good finish to the series

I have enjoyed all of the books in the Briar U series and this one was no exception. I understand that insecurities run deep and can really mess with someone’s self-esteem but after a while I wanted to slap Taylor and tell her to “snap out of it” and have some self respect. Overall the storyline was good, the side characters were interesting, and the love story had an HEA. Teddy Hamilton was brilliant as always and Elizabeth Louise (who was a new to me narrator) was surprisingly great.

A great series

I feel like as I get older college age romances don't always hold my interest but the Briar U series is definitely the exception! It must be a combination of great writing and well developed characters that just make you forget the age of the characters and just get wrapped up in their story (which is how all books should be , in my opinion).
And it doesn't hurt that both of these narrators are incredible :)
