Publisher's Summary

A sequel faithful to Jane Austen's beloved masterpiece, Pride and Prejudice. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy have been married for almost a year, and their heated arguments are a thing of the past. All that passion is now directed into more satisfying pursuits. But how long can the honeymoon last?

The couple's idyllic life together at Pemberley is jeopardized by the secrets they begin keeping from each other, the troubles of their closest friends, and the threat of a villain in their midst. Layers of seemingly innocent deception are building between Darcy and Elizabeth, threatening their relationship. He is conducting some covert business dealings that he's unwilling to share with his wife, and she likewise begins keeping things from him against her own better judgment.

The couple also becomes embroiled in the tribulations of Mr. Darcy's younger sister, Georgiana, and his friend and cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam. Fitzwilliam falls victim to their aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh, as the object of her latest scheme to make a noble match for her daughter. The arrangement satisfies the ambitions of the couple's parents, but appears to hold little prospect of happiness for Anne and Fitzwilliam, who each harbor other romantic interests. During this same period, Georgiana runs the gamut of emotions as she comes of age. Her elation at her birthday ball soon crumbles when she learns the man she secretly admires is engaged to another. The excitement of a London season and the attention of two other eligible suitors cannot make her forget her disappointment over her lost first love.

As the story progresses, the menacing shadow of Mr. Darcy's life-long nemesis looms ever-larger. By carelessness and design, Mr. Wickham and Lydia painfully intrude into the lives of the Darcys and the Bingleys, with disastrous results.

The Darcys of Pemberley is the tale of two romances: the continuation of Darcy and Elizabeth's story, and the courtship of Miss Georgiana. For those of us who didn't want Pride and Prejudice to end, this charming novel gives the opportunity to learn what happens after the wedding, to revisit old friends and foes, and to share the next chapter of their lives. Ms. Winslow carries on the saga much as Jane Austen herself might have - true to her style, her sensibilities, and the delightful characters she created.

Not for Jane Austen Purists

I actually enjoyed this book - it was light and fun. I felt the characters remained fairly true to the original book but, of course, it lacked Jane Austen's writing. However, I felt Shannon Winslow came up with a good narrative and I enjoyed Marian Hussey's reading. Not a book for the ages but a fun way to catch up on your favourite characters.

Disappointing fanfiction

I wouldn't consider myself a Jane Austin purist but this plot, language style and general content is just so out of character. It has none of the wit and sophistication of Jane Austin and tries to get by with constant references to their love life and bedrooms.

So disappointing. I tried hard but really couldn't bring myself to finish this audio book.

Top Marks. ✅

I have listened to this story many times and each time I fall in love with it all over again. After many, many peeks into the lives of the relatively newly married Fitzwilliam and Elizabeth Darcy, I never tire of listening to this story. The story covers about a twelve month and Lizzy and Darcy have been married about a year when the story begins, and it begins shockingly with the inauspicious death of Mr Collins; Lady C’s fault as he was hurrying his meal so as not to be late to a summons from her ladyship, and he chocked on a piece of mutton.

The Darcy’s marriage, at first seemingly idyllic, begins to unravel; at least, they both begin to realise that one is keeping things from the other. There is no open warfare, but they are both miserable. Wickham is up to no good, and Georgiana is having problems in the romance department.

All of the regular cast make appearances and three new players are added to the ensemble.

I have developed a strict adherence to finally reviewing all of my audio and eBooks, no matter how long ago I purchased them and I can strongly recommend this one. Marian Hussey’s narration hits most of the right notes, but I occasionally find some of the dialogue to be too slow, especially some of the men’s voices. But this slight criticism is not enough to deduct any stars.

If you love Lizzy and Darcy, you will love this continuation of their lives after marriage. 👍❤️

Excellent extension

What a great extension! I could see Darcy & Elizabeth having this life. Dramas along the way cleverly crafted and all in a modern but similar tone to the Orginal- well done!

Jane Austen would be shocked

Would you try another book written by Shannon Winslow or narrated by Marian Hussey?

Yes to the narrator, don't know about the author.

Would you recommend The Darcys of Pemberley to your friends? Why or why not?

No. There is too much implied sexual frolicking. Nothing overt of course and all within the proper bounds of marriage but Jane Austen would never have written so much bedroom talk into her books. I only listened to the first few chapters and due to my blushes on Jane Austen's behalf I am returning the book.

AWFUL

I wanted to enjoy this book but I just couldn't.
I don't think it's an authentic continuation of the story, the characters do not seem to be true to Austen's story, the storyline is outlandish and over done and the constant commentary to the Darcy's sex life is just awful. I in no way enjoyed this and am not planning to read any more from this Author ever.

As Lady Catherine would say "I'm quite put out"

Firstly, I really enjoy the style of the authors writing. The words she uses, the descriptions and her manner of conveying what she wants me to know, when she has stayed in the bounds of a Jane Austen type novel. The first 3 quarters of the book made me smile and I couldn't get enough of it. I really liked Mr Collins but I feel that his demise was fitting and very well written. The more I read, the more I wanted to keep reading.

But then this book, took a gothic turn.
And to kill off Wickham in such a horrifying way, and making Elizabeth a would be killer with a penknife. Why? Wickham was a scallywag, a liar, a manipulator, a schemer, he was greedy and dishonest, he was cunning. I just don't understand why the author has made him a gutter level criminal capable of raping and/or killing a heavily pregnant woman. In P&P, he couldn't even face Darcy at a party or a ball, so it makes no sense that he is a killer. I let out an audible ughhhh at this section of the book but carried on reading. With a situation such as that, of course then we read about Elizabeth's recovery which I wasn't looking forward to as I found the thought of a pregnant woman surviving after being flung off a raging out of control gig not believable. This book has left me with sour thoughts, which Jane Austen has never left me with.
