Publisher's Summary

Lady Phoebe Fairchild is well aware that the ton would be appalled to learn of a young lady of quality involved in a trade. Therefore, she resorts to selling her beautiful handmade gowns under a fictitious name: Madame Dupree.

So when circumstances force her to visit the estate of William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield, to design ball gowns for his sisters, she assumes Madame's identity. Phoebe's discomfort in her new position as hired help is nothing compared to her visceral attraction to the viscount himself.

Heathenishly handsome and shamelessly seductive, Will invites her to be his mistress - and Phoebe is shockingly tempted to accept. But as their desire for each other grows and the risk of exposure becomes even greater, Phoebe is in dire danger of losing her reputation, her livelihood - and her chance of becoming the bride of the man whose passion has claimed her forever.

Heroine is an idiot

I really don't like books where the heroine is so stupid I can't understand why she is doing anything. She is just TSTL and regardless of what she is seeing around her, does not get smarter.
The heroine lets a young girl (Alice) keep sneaking off with a man, even though if she had said anything to the hero, this could have been avoided. The heroine has an assistant that gets pregnant and runs off, but the heroine doesn't think that this could happen to her, even if she is having unprotected sex with the hero. This point in the plot makes me cringe with the stupidity of the heroine.
So many actions of the heroine defy understanding and things keep coming up that don't make sense. I have approx. 5 hours left, but I really can't finish.....and I really hate not finishing a book.
I have read another Julia London book and thought this might be different. JL just does not understand how a woman thinks or acts. It is difficult to understand how a female writer knows nothing about women.....very strange!

Enthralled with the 3rd book in the series

After having read and listened to so many books it is hard to be truly captivated by “series”. I feel as the series continue, the stories lose their originality and just becomes a chore the author has to finish. I was truly surprised to find how original this story was and how much it differed from the first. I did skip the second book but now I am going to purchase that as well. Julia London has quickly become one of my favorite authors and I like her style of writing and her originality from one story to the next. Well worth the credit.

Wonderful!

This book had me full of anticipation right up until the end. Phoebe is a very likable character, and I like the way that Julia London tied in women's rights to the plot. I will definitely read this again in the future!

Every Story has to have an ending.

Not the best in the trilogy. But we had to read Phoebes story, I had to know what happened to the whining, crybaby. Now that I know I can put out the light and go to sleep.

Enjoyed this audible listen

There is no great mystery or villains or murders or danger in the stories I've read so far by ms. London. They're very relational and character driven. I enjoyed this book. I like romance with a little (or lot) of heat. For some reason there was something very subtly missing so I didn't give it 5 stars. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's that I wanted the siblings stories to be more flushed out. That being said, the writing is excellent and the narration was well done.
