Publisher's Summary

Welcome to Crimson Cove: Sheltered by ancient redwoods overlooking the California coast, the cozy village of Crimson Cove has it all: sophisticated retreats, fine dining, and a notorious nightclub The Crimson Corset. It seems like a perfect place to relax and get close to nature. But not everything in Crimson Cove is natural.

When Cade Colter moves to town, he expects it to be peaceful to the point of boredom. But he quickly learns that after the sun sets and the fog rolls in, the little tourist town takes on a whole new kind of life - and death.

Darkness at the edge of town: Renowned for its wild parties and history of debauchery, The Crimson Corset looms on the edge of town, inviting patrons to sate their most depraved desires and slake their darkest thirsts.

Proprietor Gretchen VanTreese has waited centuries to annihilate the Old World vampires on the other side of town and create a new race - a race that she alone will rule. When she realizes Cade Colter has the key that will unlock her plan, she begins laying an elaborate trap that will put everyone around him in mortal danger.

Blood wars: The streets are running red with blood, and as violence and murder ravage the night, Cade must face the darkest forces inside himself and, perhaps, even abandon his own humanity in order to protect what he loves.

“Put Bram Stoker in a giant cocktail shaker, add a pinch of Laurell K. Hamilton, a shot of John Carpenter, and a healthy jigger of absinthe, and you’ll end up with Alistair Cross’s modern Gothic chiller The Crimson Corset - a deliciously terrifying tale that will sink its teeth into you from page one.” (Jay Bonansinga, New York Times best-selling author of The Walking Dead: Invasion and Lucid)

“This drop-deadly tale of seduction and terror will leave you begging to be fanged... ” (Tamara Thorne, international best-selling author of Haunted and Moonfall)

“I couldn’t put this book down. It’s got more hooks than a day boat out of San Pedro Harbor!” (QL Pearce, author)

A Horrifying, Enthralling, Fabulous Wild Ride!

The Crimson Corset grabs you right from the start, keeps you guessing, and does not let you go. Two very different groups of vampires co-exist in the same area with the fangless among them completely oblivious! The characters are so clearly defined, a few with a healthy helping of quirks that had me laughing out loud. A few that had me looking for a stake and a sledgehammer. All of them so real you’d expect to find them at the cafe where you have breakfast every morning! The plot was fascinating. My interest never waned. As much as I couldn’t wait to see how every thing got resolved, I didn’t want it to end. I loved every minute and I can’t wait for more. So very, very well done!

Excellent vampire tale!

I've never really been a big fan of vampire stories. (You can blame the Twilight saga for that!) This one is very enjoyable though. The writer is extremely talented.

Vampires!

As a reader of Vampire fiction for over 50 years, I am always in search of the next great tale. This book had a lot of unique aspects to it and, overall, was enjoyable. That being said, I do have a couple of comments about the book. There was more of an erotic aspect to the book than I anticipated. If I had been reading the book instead of listening, I would have skipped over several chapters. I realize that vampires are supposed to be sexual creatures, but this book focused on that a little too much for my taste.

I liked the author's take on the typical vampire tale by having a male character be the one enthralled by a female vampire instead of the usual male vampire/female subject. Also, the comparison of the vampire's hold over her "subjects" to a drug addiction was well done.

I had a hard time getting into the listening of this book. At first, the narrator seemed bored with what he was doing and I had a hard time continuing to listen. After a while, either I got used to his delivery or he improved (I think it was the latter). He was much more animated in the latter part of the book and had some pretty good voices for the different characters. I was given the chance to listen to this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher and I chose to review it.

Violent, decadent, and addictive

Alistair Cross has created a dark twisted world of Crimson Cove. Once again I have been treated to the world that Cross creates with his writing, at times I am reminded of Anne Rice, or Daphne DuMaurier, but with a new and entirely contemporary take on the world of gothic horror.

In Crimson Cove he has not only created multi-layered vampire characters, he also created a human cast that you really root for!! The Colter Brothers are just who I needed to root for right now!!

The book is dark, twisted, violent, and lyrical!!! I cannot wait to listen to the second part!

Captivating!

In an enjoyable departure from the vampire stories I usually read, The Crimson Corset fairly oozes sensuality, fear, lust and death. In the village of Crimson Cove there are vampires everywhere, as Coastal Eddy will tell you on his nightly radio broadcasts. There are the good guys and the bad guys, even if it's sometimes impossible to tell them apart. Michael Ward has long been the leader of a group of benign vampires who have sworn off feeding on human blood. In stark contrast, Gretchen Vantreese leads a group of murderous vampires who desire nothing more than to feed on and turn humans. People have been disappearing, even the children, and the sheriff knows all too well that things aren't always what they seem. When Cadence Colter arrives in Crimson Cove to live with his brother, Brooks, little does he know that he's about to set the little town on its axis. Cade is a sire, an enigma to a vampire, a human who has the ability to turn others into vampires. It's a story of good vs. evil and the bewitching and hideous characters who take center stage. The scenery is lush and alive with an atmosphere of evil and tension around the periphery. Populated with uniquely endearing, fascinating and kick-ass beings, Crimson Cove is high on the list of my most satisfying reads! Allen Andrews does an excellent job with the narration. He has a dynamic voice that gives each character a unique personality with its own intonation and timbre.

I just had to try this title and it was so absolutely above and beyond vampire awesome. I can't see one Vampire lover not enjoying this book and I was given a free copy in exchange for my honest feedback and only because I requested it not the other way around. I went out of my way to hunt down the source for this opportunity so let me tell you it's an amazingly awesome book that soon will have a sequel according to my source.

An Interesting Tale...

I enjoyed listening to this story as it had quite a few unknowns in the plot line. These intriguing tidbits kept me guessing as to what would be happening as the story unfolded. I found myself anxiously listening to this tale as I formed attachments to the various characters depicted in this amazing story. You’ll be intrigued by the mystery of Cade Colter and the fascination to him as shown by the vampires in this story. I also shuddered every time Brooks’ crazy ex-girlfriend as well as the sadistic and evil Gretchen were mentioned!! I sincerely look forward to listening to the other books in this excellent series. While the narrator had a “pleasant” voice, his jerky cadence was so disconcerting that it annoyingly distracted from my over-all enjoyment of the story.

So enjoyed

I enjoyed the book from the very start to the end. The development of the relationship between the brothers was brilliant, and amusing. I really enjoyed the difference in vampires. The plot is non-stop with plenty of twists.

Irritating narrator

I really enjoyed the story, however i found the narrator very off putting, he paused between words where a pause was not needed and puts emphasis on words that should not be emphasised. This is jarring and a few times pulled me from the story and I nearly gave up, it was only wanting to see how the book ended that I persevered. Towards the end of the book he did improve and speak smoothly with not as many unnecessary pauses.
I will keep an eye out for this author, but will not be listening to anything with this narrator again.
