About this listen

Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy. While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he - or she - has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.

Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own? And if not, who will help her succeed - and who among the following will work secretly to see her fail?

There is a handsome rugby player, a sexy plumber, a charlatan reporter and a selection of meddling locals. Add in a hit-and-run incident and the disappearance of a valuable engraved necklace, and what you get is a journey of self-discovery and unpredictable events. With surprising and heartfelt results, Rosa, accompanied at all times by her sausage dog Hot, will slowly unravel the shadowy secrets of the inheritance and also bring her own long-hidden heritage into the light.

Enjoyable romantic book

Easy listen, loveable main character, great narration. Enough twists to keep readers engaged but not too much.

Story was lovely narration not my favourite

I found the narration a bit hard to listen to, and the break between chapters too long which always made me think my headphones had stopped working 😆

The Narratoris terrible!

im only an hour into the book and I'm already regretting spending my last credit on it. I'm so disappointed, the narators voice is grinding on my nerves. She swings from bad to worse. Rosa, the main character, sounds like a strangled Australian, and titch sounds a mix of Irish and English. I don't know if I can finish it. I loved the first book and looked forward to listening to this one.

An Unusual Start for the Story

My gosh. There were many characters to be sorted out in this narrative, some of them not who they appeared to be on first impressions. Phew. However, making lifetime friends and finding family brought the story together. I liked the approach.

Worth reading but not attention grabbing.

Story reasonable. Characters a bit wimpy. Not a fan of the narrator as makes the characters even more wimpy!

Addictive - so many interwoven stories.

A beautiful main character - so simple and matter of fact in the narration but it belies a woman who has suffered and lived a tough life. She’s deeply flawed but admirable.

Fun and enjoyable. Anointing narrator's voice.

This was a fun and enjoyable light hearted book and I'll definitely be listening to the full series. Unfortunately the narrator's accent was really unpleasant to listen to, but she did capture the tone of the book and its characters very well.
