A single Coronal Mass Ejection...

Battered and beaten, Russell emerges from the wreckage alone with no choice but to hike through the mountains and find help.

Teaming up with a prepper, and her faithful dog, Max, Russell battles his way back to his family. But on a road littered with roaming gangs and unscrupulous mobsters, reaching his loved ones in time maybe more than he can bear....

Idiots in an apocalypse

I used a credit for the box set, so I suffered through the listen.

It starts off as regular people trapped in bad situations in an apocalypse, who in any other story would be the first people to die and only survive through pure luck and chance. They have no skills and make poor choices throughout, but always just happen to sneak by. I almost believe the author received a kickback from Glock, because almost all pistols used or are described as either a Glock or just a pistol, the author also doesn't have much firearm knowledge when they describe a pistol as clicking on empty when the trigger is pulled rather then it locking open.

The characters always say they need to be armed and prepared, yet every opportunity they have to collect weapons from downed enemies or stock supplies, they ignore or something happens. From there the further books get even worse, with one unbelievable misadventure leading to another, with them just squeaking by through luck. It evolves into a bad crime drama with the apocalypse just being the background of why their enemies can get away with more because the police are busy elsewhere.

If you are looking for true apocalypse survival stories, this isn't it.

repetitive

the story was just one weird fight after another. the author really needs to use a thesaurus. three same words and phrases were used over and over and over. if you want to see an example, listen to how many times the word "peer" was used.

Wasted credit.

Struggled painfully to listen. Only enjoyed the beginning. After the cabin burnt, the story changed into a type of "Thug" life monotonous drool pit. Think of Charlie Brown's parents. Found myself thinking over and over..."I don't care".

Repeat

This author needs to buy a thesaurus. Constant repeat of discriptive words was irritating. Compounded by the lack of research on items used in the book just added to it.

A good thriller

The story is good and kept me interested, but this is not novel about surviving the apocalypse in any way shape or form. The event just made the crime harder to resolve.

Poor English

Phrases like "busted glass" and "over exaggerated". Author seems to have a great deal of knowledge about guns and dogs. But, poor knowledge of basic English.

completely unbelievable...

Neither main character would have survived past the first 5 chapters! All they've done is bounce from chapter to chapter getting the ever loving piss beat out of them by one thing or another! Never mind the fact that Russell survives a plane crash and mountain lion attack just to go on later in the book to hike for miles upon miles over cliffs and other rugged terrain in the blue ridge and all without ANY survival gear let alone friggin water or food! and let's not forget he's also in alcohol withdrawal throughout the whole damn thing! Don't even get me started on sara and all her stupid decisions while running from the irish mob that are chasing her so they can sell her into the human trafficking ring! 🙄 uuugh. So basically if you're looking for a good survival/prepper series to get into, this isn't it. at all.

NOT A Post Apocalyptic Series

I don't know how this made it into the Post-Apoc fiction genre. The only thing post-apoc about this is the grid down scenario. The entire story is about crime syndicate relentlessly hunting down one woman and her husband's random, meandering back to Boston to find her. His story is only slightly better than hers. I kept telling myself that if it's Spencer again I'm returning the book but I felt like I needed to finish it before leaving a bad review. It never got better. Horrible series, don't do it if you are looking for a true post-apoc series.

Skip it

I can’t recommend this series. The plot was just not believeable, in the face of a cataclysmic event, a crime syndicate sends scores of henchmen to kidnap one woman. These guys must be super sophisticated. Not sure how they stayed in constant communication about her whereabouts without electricity and communication devices. Would have been far more convincing if they were fighting over supplies or territory. Not only that, I cannot believe that authors are still writing books that only feature people of color as criminals, gang bangers and thugs. Very small minded. The narrator does a decent job reading, that’s the best thing about this series. Wish I had chosen something else.

flat, repetitive and a nonsense of a story line

the reason I bought the book(s) was the length. the reason I slogged through it after realizing it was going to be a long and tough ride very early on: I couldn't believe it was possible to repeat the same dribble in all 5 books. characters are completely one dimensional. descriptions are thrown in everywhere without ever bringing the story forward or causing some excitement to build.
