Christmas mouse and No holly for Miss Quin

These two stories were such a delight. Set in the usual english village, probably in the late forties or early fifties, the characters are described so well that one feels as though the little episodes personally involve one. The narrator has such warmth in her voice. I loved them both.

Miss Read christmas classics.

The Christmas Mouse and No Holly for Miss Quinn are classic Miss Read christmas stories evoking memories of christmas past that can be enjoyed again and again. Miss Read's characters are usually ordinary everyday folk that value good sense together with old fashioned ideals and Gwen Watford's superb narration brings those characters to life.

LOVED it!

Superb. It's like eating buttered crumpets and drinking steaming tea by an open fire. I have re listened dozens of times, timeless and utterly charming. Immeasurably comforting like a thick feather duvet in Winter. But not very Christian of Lovell to not offer fuel money for the long journey to and from Norfolk!

A lovely gentle book

Miss Read evokes a world that doesn't exist anymore (and probably never did) which feels gentler and less pressured than the the present day. These two stories were beautifully read and enjoyable. It is the perfect feel good book.
