About this listen

In the corridors of Chicago's top law firm: 26-year-old Adam Hall stands on the brink of a brilliant legal career. Now he is risking it all for a death-row killer and an impossible case. Maximum Security Unit, Mississippi State Prison: Sam Cayhall is a former Klansman and unrepentant racist now facing the death penalty for a fatal bombing in 1967. He has run out of chances - except for one: the young, liberal Chicago lawyer who just happens to be his grandson. While the executioners prepare the gas chamber, while the protesters gather and the TV cameras wait, Adam has only days, hours, minutes to save his client. For between the two men is a chasm of shame, family lies, and secrets - including the one secret that could save Sam Cayhall's life...or cost Adam his.

I'm sure glad there is no death penalty in the country I live in. it's a cruel barbaric institution. this book is more than a story about death row. I grew so fond of Sam and Adam, they'll lice long in my meemory

Sad and Anazing.

Towards the end of the story, I felt far more empathy for the main character and his family than I could have expected through the beginning of the story.

very well written and performed

I like the whole book.
When I started the book, I didn’t like the voice of the narrator, but then I got used to it. I really enjoyed this book. Couldn’t stop listening.

Couldn’t stop listening to this one. Really difficult/thought-provoking subject matter - death penalty, KKK etc - but a great story wrapped around it. left me thinking about it after I’d finished. Also very good narration . Highly recommend.

Fantastic Book

Gripping story giving rich insights into the plight of a man destined to die. Hearing his crimes, understanding the circumstances, knowing the hatred, does he deserve death? An engaging listen that paints the harrowing journey of last weeks

Death Row Rollercoaster

John Grisham certainly tells a moving tale. I loved a great deal about this story.
How the blacks suffered! What is it that one ‘type’ of person can lord it over another as we know happened and still does to a certain extent.

Well written and read.

I love a good Grisham, but this one left me quite unsatisfied. Good writing and great potential, but a really unexciting ending and a boring lawyer was disappointing. Onto the next one though.

Disappointed
