Publisher's Summary

Master of international intrigue Daniel Silva, the number one New York Times best-selling author, comes an explosive new thriller featuring art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon.

The most beautiful music hides the deadliest secrets....

Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia's richest man, he now resides in exile in London, where he is waging a crusade against the kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion is protected by armed bodyguards. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia's vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov's name off his kill list.

Before him was the receiver from his landline telephone, a half-drunk glass of red wine, and a stack of documents....

The documents are contaminated with a deadly nerve agent. The Metropolitan Police determine that they were delivered by one of Orlov's employees, a prominent investigative reporter. And when the reporter vanishes hours after the killing, MI6 concludes she is a Moscow Center assassin who penetrated the billionaire's formidable defenses. But Gabriel Allon believes his friends in British intelligence are dangerously mistaken. His search for the truth will take him to Geneva, where a private intelligence service is plotting an act of violence that will plunge an already divided America into chaos. Only Allon, with the help of a brilliant young woman employed by the world's dirtiest bank, can stop it....

Praise for Daniel Silva:

"Fascinating, suspenseful and bated-breath exciting." (Publishers Weekly)

"One of the greatest spy novelists the genre has ever known." (CrimeReads)

"Daniel Silva is that rarity of rarities, a writer whose stories just keep getting better." (Huffington Post)

"If you like Jason Bourne and Jack Reacher, get to know Gabriel Allon." (Australian Women's Weekly)

Daniel Silva does it again

A thrilling and topical tale ,that I suspect is much more factual than fictional
Silva has this amazing writing ability and imagination to bring his characters to life so we can easily relate to them ,and he does so mixed together with that dry and witty humour spread throughout

A most enjoyable presentation , I listened to it twice so as to be sure I didn’t miss anything the first time

Brilliant as always!

Daniel Silva never lets you down! This is one of the best Gabriel Allon stories yet. A web of espionage and political retribution sees Gabriel and his usual stable of agents plot against the wealth and power of Russian oligarchs and political heavyweights. Great read!

Skip the lecture

I wish the author realized people read fiction for an escape. The last few chapters of the book got so political, it was painful. In the acknowledgements at the end of the story, the author choose to use it as an opportunity to give a long lecture on his political views. After the year we just went through, really? I felt a bit ambushed as I was listening in my car. It really bothers me to have to listen to his take on the events of the past year. I listen to fiction to escape, and listening to that made me question his writing this story. It has been an exhausting year of biased reporting, news you can’t trust & feeling like everyone has an agenda. For the love of god, please stick to writing a good story & spare us the rest. So disappointing!

A clever spy thriller with greed and politics

loved the clever storyline that was reasonably sophisticated. the characters were richly presented and the punchline solid. I learnt a lot about dirty banks and Russian politics .
the only thing I didn't like was the shameless namedropping of brands who had bought advertising the book. After the 5th time I heard BMW X5, in a few lines, i was over it. I get you have to sell sponsorship and everyone does it, but don't be crass with it

Daniel let his personal opinions slip

Didn't bother to finish. Can't wait for Silva to write the Biden book. Maybe a trilogy, Joe, Hunter & the Family. AS IF. LOL

Boring

This time Silva wrote the most boring book ever. I struggled through it. The never ending background on a person irritated my ears. Was not a joy to listen too.

Waste of time and money

I read all books written by Daniel Silva but I won't read more his books. It looks like he run out of ideas. This book was like summary of his previous books, in most parts is boring. Very end of the book about American election is rather primitive. Alon's assassination is absolutely ridiculous how it is presented.
On one hand he says that his characters are his creation but on other hand, at the end of the book he writes a lot of Donald Trump sins. It is almost like listening to CNN. I think this book won't aged well.
I did not like how this book was read, it sounded more like staccato. George Guildall was much better.
I would like to return this book but it looks that it is not an option.
