About this listen

A chilling historical horror story set in the American west in 1912 following a Lutheran priest who transcribes the life of a vampire who haunts the fields of the Blackfeet reservation looking for justice.

A diary, written in 1912 by a Lutheran pastor is discovered within a wall. What it unveils is a slow massacre, a chain of events that go back to 217 Blackfeet dead in the snow. Told in transcribed interviews by a Blackfeet named Good Stab, who shares the narrative of his peculiar life over a series of confessional visits. This is an American Indian revenge story written by one of the new masters of horror, Stephen Graham Jones.

I found the book original, and the different timelines mostly worked, the main characters were well developed, and the story was both moving and bleak. A really great read, my one criticism is the final act which was mildly disjointed, and the motivations of the great, great granddaughter were too opaque.

Wonderfully original book, a bit of a rushed end

a bit like interview with the vampire then throw in the end of the American indigenous people way of life , the near extinction of the Buffalo and add some sweet revenge and you've got yourself a winner. when I first came across this I was like " hmm a vampire book, pass..." but the reviews were good and I can see why. Three people lost me a little here and there but I do appreciate the language at the time. amazing narrators , epic tale.

Amazing

Great narration, works very well to bring the book to life. The story itself is a little tired, Dracula in a different hat, Harkers letters and all.
Enjoyable enough as a slight twist on an old tale.
