Publisher's Summary

The Book of Revelation is the only book of the Bible with a promise to the reader! Why? What makes this book so special?

Revelation is a lens that puts the entire Bible into focus. The lens is focused on the person of Jesus Christ, and his destiny is imminent. This is a book of victory: We are overcomers! We are the ultimate winners in the game of life! (I read the ending: We win!)

One of the reasons this book strikes us as strange is because of our lack of understanding concerning the Old Testament. The Book of Revelation consists of 404 verses that contain over 800 allusions to the Old Testament. These are detailed, along with Chuck's analysis of the design and structure of this fascinating book. Learn about the past, present, and future of the church and our ultimate destiny. This is an ideal "first study" and foundational for every Christian.

Hard to follow

I sat through 2 hrs of 26 before aborting this book. While the topic does interest me, I Found Chuck just rambled way to much going off on tangents all the time. There are better books out there on this that get to the point. Not for me.

Blessed to Hear

Outstanding! Be sure to get the accompanying pdf for in-depth study. I listened all the way through first, and will now be attending a Bible study on Revelation. I plan on going through this again, more slowly, along with the pdf. This is a great Bible study with a great focus on the Bible without any detours or "fluff" or "fillers". He has great cross references to other scriptures, as needed. Highly recommend.

Mr. Missler is a wonderful Biblical scholar, but..

Mr. Missler is a wonderful Biblical scholar and teacher. However, because of his health issues (respiratory) and habit of speaking very fast, much of the knowledge of his years of study and living are lost to the listener because he tries to get too much said on one breath. Therefore, the end of the sentence.....thoughts are lost.

I recommend earlier recordings of his, but not this one as too much is lost and garbled.

An unveiling of the unveiling

An insightful pairing of biblical account coupled with historical references. The result is a comprehensive teaching of one of the most fascinating books of the Bible. You will find yourself reading chapters over and over again to capture the depth of the knowledge being imparted. One of the things I like most about this book is that it encourages all of us to be Berean Christians. Many perspectives are presented and we are all encouraged to perform deeper research to formulate our own beliefs. Very well done and I know I will leverage it as a reference as I continue my studies.

Revelation

This book brings you through Revelation in a step by step process. References throughout the Bible adds to the learning process.
I’ve studied Revelation for over forty years and found this study the most on target to keeping with the Word of God.

Awful narration

Stupidly didn't listen to a sample before I purchased, when I started listening I was unable to understand narrator, Chuck missler, he spoke too fast and mumbled toward end of sentence just gave up! Worst of all I purchased 3 other titles by same author and narrator which I didn't waste time and being frustrated by. Was unaware I could have exchanged this and other books by Chuck Muscles until very recently now it appears I am too late to do so.. Most frustrating!

Commentary on the book of Revelation

Dr. Chuck Missler walks through the book of Revelation explaining it verse by verse, and backing up his interpretation by sharing verses and insights from other books in the Bible.

Excellent commentary, that takes a literal approach to the Bible and the book of Revelation.

Fundamentalist millenarianism at its most extreme

I will say that, whilst other reviewers have their criticisms, I actually really enjoyed the vocal performance. It's a bit too fast at times to take everything in but Missler brings a lot of energy to his sermons, which is all the more impressive given his respiratory problems at this late stage of his life.

Unfortunately, the commentary itself is incredibly weak. I've seen people refer to Missler as a scholar, which is a mistake because he is only really an evangelical pastor - who was actually educated as an engineer. As such, he takes the fundamentalist millenarian view that the Bible predicts a literal end time and that this end time is closer than ever before (every generation has had people who have said this by the way).

This literalist approach would not be harmful if it didn't justify Missler's extreme form of Christian Zionism. His argument hinges on the claim that America must support the political state of Israel in its conflict with Palestine or else risks punishment by God. I shouldn't have to explain how dangerous to politics and foreign policy this idea is.

There is also a deep sectarianism underlying Missler's sermons. He rages against Catholics, ecumenical Christians and any other Christians who adopt an 'Amillenial' stance on the end time. He also says that the Jesus Seminar, who study the historical Jesus, are liable to divine punishment and that supersessionists (who believe the universal church superseded the ancient Israel of the Bible) are inherently antisemitic.

For those interested in Revelation, I would instead recommend 'Revelations: Visions, Prophecy, and Politics in the Book of Revelation' available here on Audible. Or if you want to read about the book, check out William Barclay's two-part commentary in his 'New Daily Study Bible' series or N.T. Wright's 'Revelation for Everyone', also part of a series.
