About this listen

The final volume in the bestselling Library Trilogy, following THE BOOK THAT WOULDN'T BURN and THE BOOK THAT BROKE THE WORLD.

The secret war that defines the Library has chosen its champions and set them on the board

The fate of an infinite library hangs on one book, a book that holds the power to break the unbreakable. In the face of such forces, fragile things like hearts, family, and the world seem certain to fail.

The people most vital to Livira are scattered across time and space, lost, divided into factions, in mortal peril. Somehow, she must bring them together and resolve the unresolvable argument that fuels the library’s war. The bond between Livira and Evar has stretched and stretched again. Can it hold at the end, when things fall apart? Can it bring them together against impossible odds? This is the last chapter, the final page. The end threatens and no one, not characters, readers, or even the author, will emerge unscathed.

I think this will take me a little while to process and get over. And probably a relisten! the narrator is one of the best. flawless. the story was a great end to such an awesome series. I feel equal parts heart broken and happy.

all the emotions!

For me this finale didn’t feel up to the level of the first 2 books. The characters leave the library and end up in all sorts of different places and times and worlds, there’s reality and hallucinations and it just felt disjointed and like it was jumping around too far and too often. I wish it had stayed in the library and the original world.

Somewhat disappointing end to an amazing first 2 books.

Loved the series. Part of me wished the story would continue but ultimately the trilogy was probably just about right. Fantastic narrating by Jessica Whitaker.

I loved this final conclusion to the Trilogy, the way it made me think deeply about literature and its place in our world. I was constantly swept along by the complex storylines and challenge of keeping track with time and space. I love the authors masterful use of philosophy and prose, ethical dilemmas of knowledge vs. ignorance, and the inclusion of Nazi Germany was a interesting surprise. You know a book is brilliant when you don't want it to end and when it does you just want to hear it again! Livira and Eva's love story was a golden thread woven throughout that I simply had to follow to the end.

Simply Brilliant

First book was really good, fun concept and tight - focus on just a couple of characters. Second book widened a little but still kept focus. This book... It was a grind to finish and I just didn't care. I found it too meta, too wide in scope as another review said. A shame really.

I just didn't care
