About this listen

Frankie Rose is desperate for love. Or a relationship. Or just a date with a semi-normal person will do. It’s not that she hasn’t tried; her string of crazy dates are well-documented on her blog. So, inspired by her job at The Little Brunswick Street Bookshop, Frankie decides to take fate into her own hands and embarks on the ultimate love experiment. Her plan? Plant her favourite books on trains inscribed with her contact details in a bid to lure the sophisticated, charming and well-read man of her dreams. Enter Sunny, and one spontaneous kiss later, Frankie begins to fall for him. But there’s just one problem – Frankie is strictly a Jane Austen kind of gal, and Sunny is really into Young Adult. Like, really.

I really enjoyed the story, though it did take me a bit of effort to get past the narrator. At first I couldn’t pick what she reminded me of. Then I realised that her voice and tone reminds me of Siri (of Apple IPhone fame). I then felt like the whole book was being narrated to me from my phone by Siri. It was quite off putting, which is unfortunate as the story was an enjoyable one.

Story great, narrator less so.

Had me hooked from the start. Funny, sad, brilliant! Excellent characters and being set in Melbourne I loved the familiar location.

Wow! As a young adult myself, I first read this and while laughing through the hilarious parts, it occurred to me that my uncle would also like to read it, being a busy man, I knew he'd take way too long to get to it though. I ended up getting the audio book and loving it once again despite the readers voices being different than my head and my uncle enjoyed it too, Sunny being his favourite and while I enjoyed Frankie, I found Cat's insanity particularly thrilling. We both loved the idea of leaving books in random places fascinating and definitely not littering, lol...
