Publisher's Summary

A traveller walks down a forest road alone.

A thief waits by the roadside.

But today, Kinch has chosen the wrong mark. Galva is a knight, a survivor of the brutal goblin wars and patron of the goddess of death. She is searching for her missing queen, whom no one has seen since her city fell to giants.

After Kinch's attempt to rob Galva goes horribly wrong, his fate becomes locked to hers. Thief and knight must traverse lands where goblins hunger for kynd flesh, krakens hunt in dark waters, and the gods only laugh when you ask them for help.

Yet far worse are the dangers that lie in wait at their journey's end....

The Blacktongue Thief is the story of an indebted thief (now student loans even follow us in to fantasy worlds), a witch-in-training and a knight - with a giant war raven - forced to journey together through a world scarred by a brutal, decades-long war with goblins. It's delightfully dark, balancing the grit of fantasy adventure with vibrant and beautiful notes.

Brilliant! Buy it!

This is one of the best and most original books I've ever read. It was a great adventure, told from a wickedly brilliant and mischievous perspective of a professional thief, with a system of magic and other fantasy concepts and creatures that worked perfectly. So much fun from start to finish. Here's a tip --- reduce the speed to 90% because he talks quite fast. I couldn't catch up initially, and it was a bit frustrating, but when I reduced the playback speed everything fell into place. 5 Stars nevertheless. Excellent.

An amazing adventure!

Christopher Buehlman's novel and the world he creates, is grim, dark and beautiful. The book is full of poetry and song, the characterization and concepts are terrific, particularly his ideas of tattoo magic, and you never want to finish. Every chapter is like a fascinating adventure in itself, there's just so much happening. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Anyone who loves fantasy should get this as soon as possible.

Very Difficult Listen.

Authors narrating their own work is rarely successful, as this attempt proves. I found it impossible to listen to the story, as the author gabbled his way through the narration. I'm returning the book unfinished. Leave it to the trained professionals please.

Most enjoyable listen

Whilst the story might not be 100 per cent original it has plenty of twists and turns. With a main character who through the narrator you cant help but like.It was never hard going and quite amusing in parts.Looking forward to the next one.

A post apocalyptic story in a fantasy world

Great worldbuilding, fantastic characters, but too much sadness. Too many Murphy's law moments. Everytime something goes well, it doesn't take long before something goes very wrong.

Fantasy worth the time and coin

A very classy reading of an absorbing and beautifully written tale. Old Magick, the nasty kind, politic-ing, also the nasty kind, and grimy fantasy fill this story of a thief who falls in with the right wrong crowd.

simply wonderful

What an amazing book. Everything about it was "just right" , the characters , the story , the narration. I was watching the duration willing the book not to end but unable to stop listening ! . if the author reads reviews .. if you could have the next part of the story finished in the next month or two that would be much appreciated !

Outstanding!

Within 30 secs of the sample I knew I was going to love this as much as the Name of the Wind and it totally kept its promise.
