On the eve of his execution, a man gives a detailed account of his descent into madness and the horrific crime he committed, which he claims is "nothing more than an ordinary succession of very natural causes and effects." The catalyst for his violence? A house cat, which was once a beloved pet.

This was an okay story. Trigger warning for animal cruelty. I know it’s a short story but I wish Poe had shown more of a reason behind the MC doing what he did with apparently no similar prior instances. An insinuation that the POV character was unreliable would have been a good way to do this.
