Publisher's Summary

The bet was simple. You draw a name from the hat. That's the girl you have to seduce. The girl you have to make fall head over heels in love with you. It wasn't hard for him to do, in fact, it was something he did all the time. He was known for breaking hearts. Sex was just that, sex. And it didn't take him very long to get a woman on her back.

And then he drew her name: Jules Peterson. His former best friend, first kiss, and first love. She shattered his heart into a million pieces three years ago. She left him right when he needed her most. She had entered his life once again, at almost the perfect time. She was a transfer, fresh meat, and she had just put a target on her back. It was his turn to make her pay and break her heart.

Holding onto that hate, that anger, that f--king heartbreak - it does something to you. It breaks you, and it broke and tainted him, just like he would do to Jules. She used to be his everything, but now she was nothing but a bet.

Amazing!

This was an awesome audiobook! The grudge that Remington has seems quite petty and definitely not worth the grief he gives Jules. There is a definite trigger warning due to the dark bully themes in this, but if you are ok with that then I would definitely recommend this book. I was a little worried due to the bad reviews this book got but I decided to give it a try because I've always loved reading books by J.L. Beck and I am so glad I made that decision. The narration of this audiobook was also amazing with Teddy Hamilton and Ava Lucas portraying the characters perfectly. If this sounds like the book for you and you've read the blurb and think you will like it then this is a book I would definitely recommend for you. Enjoy!

So good!

Really enjoyed this for all the drama and character reconnect. At first I thought Remy's reason for targeting Jules juvenile (I still think that), but it makes sense with his character and the rest is good. ❤ Big brother Sebastian is the best!
Trigger warning for forced sexual assault (not rape), attempted rape and reliving the trauma.

Not Good

I just didn't like this book. The first part was Remi whining about everything. Then the second part is Jules whining about everything. Along with the dumb reason Remi was mad at Jules in the first part and the dumb reason she was mad at him in the second part, it just wasn't good. It's a shame too because I love Teddy Hamilton and love to listen to just about any book he reads but this book was just a waste of his talent. He made the book Ava Lucas was alright.

My fave

I’m trying to write this without giving away any spoilers!
My first thoughts on Remington after his first flashback is that he’s a total dick! I mean you can’t blame Jules because of something that was out of her control. First chapter in and my heart was already a mess. Like dudeee wth is your problem? Remmy’s first words to her after he saw her again in class after three years were so harsh i was like dude i want to throat punch you! The bet.. stupid idea but boys will be boys! *inserteyeroll* damn this book put me through an emotional rollercoaster! I can’t even with this book JL writes so damn good i could literally feel Jules’ pain while reading, so much raw emotion.
Now I’m beginning to like Remmy a bit... also i have something in common with Jules i hate coffee but love hot chocolate minus the cinnamon. Remmy is starting to come around and not be a dick.
Ugh now he’s back to being a dick! But atleast i know he loves her and I’m pretty sure he never expected the recording to get out... i can feel his pain whewww the emotions right now are so high!
Ok done! Wow that was so good I literally couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait for you all to meet, hate and then fall in love with Remington! It was so emotional and raw i totally loved it!!
This definitely deserves a 5 star!

Jules and Remington

Such a heart wrenching story. It took me a lot to start liking Remington. He is so mean in the beginning, but his actions come from a place of pain. He doesn't know how to deal with his emotions and anger, so he blames Jules for all his problems. Luckily he comes to his senses half way through out the book. Also, enjoyed the narration. voices were great and sucked me in.

no, just no

that is not love, that is not how you treat another human being. I didn't like this book at all, neither the characters, the writing or the plot.

it’s not very deep

this book had potential but you can feel something is missing. as if i just scratched the surface, and the characters, well you wanted to like them but i was indifferent about the woman lead, the male lead was just hard to like at all. You didn’t get that sense of attachment or the feeling of being “in the know” about their past or thought process.
truths reveal themselves as you move along like normal, but because some important bits took a while to get to, it just came across as unimportant and anticlimactic. I made it with about two and a half hours left to finish, i normally finish just because my annoying curiosity won’t let me stop but i couldn’t continue. the story was predictable. The male lead was angry and you kinda get it but he didn’t have to go so hard. MINI SPOILER the woman loses her brother and father, i say this is mini because it was very anticlimactic, you would think this feeling would dominate and be described and you feel connected and want to morn her loss, but it was glossed over, i didn’t even realize she had a brother until she mentioned he died.
i can keep going but i can say for sure it’s not worth the read.
