A struggle to get through

We normally love listening to DW audio books on a family car trip but this book did not live up to expectation. It was boring, long-winded and full of death and violence.

Best Book Ever!

David Walliams doesn’t write better fiction books. Finally he made another book that’s not a realistic fiction book. It’s a epic adventure about evil and good. This was the best book ever! 10/10.

A very different Walliams story

We have loved listening to David Walliams stories but this one is for older readers and scared my seven year old. We stopped listening. I would say this is for mature age 10 and above.

Very Dark

I got this for my eight year old son, having listened to “The Ice Monster”. I found this to almost fit the horror genre and we stopped listening to it because of that. It’s a very bleak world that is explored in this book.

Not for younger children

Quite different to his normal books and not as enjoyable. Too dark for children but too childish for teens or adults. Quite bleak.

We loved it

We listened in the car on a long journey and we didn't want the journey to finish, so we could listen to the next bit. So enjoy David Walliams books.

Violent and sad

Unless your child likes books where children's parents and grandparents are killed in violent circumstances by evil characters, I would steer clear. My nine year old son found it upsetting and asked me to post this review, not a thing we usually do. The only plus point was that the voices were excellent.

bizarre futuristic war theme

My 7 yr old enjoyed it. I found some of the war scenes a bit adult, and the story went round in circles a bit with 12 yr old Alfred repeatedly captured and then saved by elderly ladies. found the story a bit bizarre. not as enjoyable as the earlier David Walliams books.
