Publisher's Summary
The Imperium has been brought to the edge of extinction by an ork invasion of unprecedented scale and depth. Piecemeal strikes against the invaders prove ineffective - for every ork fleet destroyed, five more appear.
The only solution is to find and kill the orks' warlord - the Great Beast. Surely if its leader is killed, the greenskins' empire will fall apart in agony of infighting and confusion. Lord Commander Koorland assembles a mighty army, but when they arrive on the orks home world, the forces of the Imperium discover they have disastrously underestimated the might and ingenuity of their enemy.

Disappointing
Gav is a perfectably serviceable writer but nothing more than that. And in trying (emphasis on) to write Vulcan, he glaringly shows his limits.
Gav attempts to portray Vulcan as a worn but wisened legend. But instead it comes off like every other character in Gav's limited ability to write from unique perspective: aka Vulcan comes off as a dumb, aloof asshole.
This is not the treatment a legendary Primarch should have! Gav's Vulcan shows no solemn charisma other than us being told he has it. And in failing to portray Vulcan, the lynchpin of this arc, Gav breaks the back of this whole novel.

Wacky but fun.
Ok if youre this far into the series a review isn't going to change your mind.
but the story in this one goes into B level scifi- and I mean that in the best way. It's wacky, silly, over the top, and keeps rolling. Everyone had plot armor, does overly heroic stuff, and they even do some silly renditions of Shakespeare. This book isn't art, but you're going to have fun with it.
The performance is a bit lacking. the reader had trouble keeping the voices consistent across the whole book... but it's somewhat understandable when there's some huge conversations going on. But there are some other times when the inflection doesn't match what is being said. It's not constant but happens enough to be noticeable.
