About this listen
THE ALL-TIME NUMBER ONE AUSTRALIAN BEST SELLER
This is the only money guide you'll ever need.
That's a bold claim, given there are thousands of finance books on the shelves.
Yet there’s a reason this book is in one in every 20 Australian homes.
You’ll find out how to create an entire financial plan that is so simple you can sketch it on the back of a serviette...and you'll be able to manage your money in 10 minutes a week.
The Barefoot Steps stand the test of time. In this classic edition, you’ll get the skinny on:
- Saving up a six-figure house deposit in 20 months
- Doubling your income using the 'Trapeze Strategy'
- Saving $77,641 on your mortgage and wiping out almost seven years of payments
- Handing your kids (or grandkids) a $140,000 cheque on their 21st birthday
- Why you don't need $1 million to retire...with the 'Donald Bradman Retirement Strategy'
Sound too good to be true? It's not.
This book is full of stories from everyday Aussies — single people, young families, empty nesters, retirees — who have applied the Barefoot Steps, freed themselves from crippling debt and achieved amazing, life-changing results.
And you're next.
Scott Pape is the Barefoot Investor.
Since 2002, he’s reached millions of Australians through his email newsletter, national weekend newspaper columns, appearances on TV and radio and his bestselling books, The Barefoot Investor (2016) and The Barefoot Investor for Families (2018).
He has worked with the heads of government, schools across the country, AFL and NRL teams, bushfire survivors, and some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
In 2020, Scott was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for ‘service to the community and to financial education’.
Scott gave up his financial services license in 2020 to become a volunteer financial counsellor.
He lives in country Victoria with his wife, Liz, and their four children on their family
farm and is often seen belting around in an old ute that doesn’t need to be locked.

Whether you’re looking to save up enough money to put down a deposit on a house or find a financial adviser who’s actually trustworthy, it’s safe to say that achieving financial objectives can feel like an insurmountable challenge. But with the guidance of Scott Pape, The Barefoot Investor himself, your most ambitious money goals can become a reality.
This guide isn’t filled with unachievable budget demands or plans that are impossible to actually put into action. Rather, Pape distils his most pragmatic money advice into five easy-to-follow steps. Aussies can rest assured that they have the most up-to-date information on who to call, where to invest and what to say to achieve financial freedom once and for all. As he’s known for his work on radio and television, it’s no surprise that Pape is a masterful storyteller and narrator — his rich, warm voice brings to life stories from real life Australians, demonstrating the changes in money habits needed to grow and sustain wealth.

His advice is good, his voice doesn’t get any less annoying
Started listening to the book. Thought wow this guys voice is really annoying. Trouble is the books has a great easy to use framework that makes sense. So I finished the book, which I now recommend reading as his voice doesn’t get any less annoying throughout.

Best and funnier money book you’ll ever listen to!
Scott opened my eyes for so many things other finance books didn’t. I feel excited about but journey ahead and, specially, about my retirement plan. I had never thought that much about retirement, until recently when I stumbled on the government retirement calculator. I was so depressed when I punched in the numbers… then talking about it with a friend, she recommended Scotts book. On top of loving the content, Scott is a funny bloke too, which makes a book about finances a lot easier to listen to. It’s a lot of fun!

good advice
This is a great book to get started. I wasn't a big fan of the author's style of delivery - quite a few disparaging remarks towards others that weren't necessary... but don't let that get in the way of the solid advice. Similar stuff in Tony Robbins' unshakeable; if you have to pick one, i'd pick unshakeable. But do both if you can
