About this listen

'The ultimate source of happiness is within us.'

The Art of Happiness is the pioneering book of the happiness and personal development genre and remains the cornerstone of the field of positive psychology and practical self-help.

Through conversations, stories, and meditations, the Dalai Lama shows us how to defeat day-to-day anxiety, insecurity, anger, and discouragement. This book explores many facets of everyday life, including relationships, loss, and the pursuit of wealth, to illustrate how to ride through life's obstacles on a deep and abiding source of inner peace in order to overcome life's problems and achieve lasting happiness.

Based on 2,500 years of Buddhist meditations combined with a healthy dose of common sense, The Art of Happiness is a book that crosses the boundaries of traditions and brings Eastern and Western philosophy together seamlessly.

A fair bit of information to take in and I found the different perspective enlightening. It was an easy listen for me. Relating stories to real life examples was great.

Easy listen with good content

The Dalai Lama's statements on habits that can make us deeply happy (and thus peaceful, compassionate and ultimately better human beings) are simple, clear, true and to be treasured.
The book is mostly presented as interviews or meetings between a Western Psychologist named Howard Cutler and the Dalai Lama. I found some of the questions by Howard Cutler to be a bit silly and frustrating at times. Would love to read a book on happiness written soley by the Dalai Lama.

Worth the read.
