Nobody does it better....

Dr. Mo O'Brien is an intelligence agent at the top-secret government agency known as the Laundry. When occult powers threaten the realm, they'll be there to clean up the mess and deal with the witnesses. But the Laundry is recovering from a devastating attack, and when average citizens all over the country start to develop supernatural powers, the police are called in to help.

Mo is appointed as official police liaison, but in between dealing with police bureaucracy, superpowered members of the public and disgruntled politicians, Mo discovers to her horror that she can no longer rely on her marriage, nor on the weapon that has been at her side for eight years of undercover work: the possessed violin known as Lecter.

If this wasn't bad enough, a mysterious figure known as Dr. Freudstein is committing heists and sending increasingly threatening messages to the police. Who is Freudstein, and what is he planning?

Ok. Not up to usual standard.

Bit underwhelming as a Laundry novel but if you’re this far in you’ll like continue. The voice acting was not as great, but survivable. Mhari was more sympathetic than Mo, strangely.

Meh...

I've really enjoyed this series until this book. While experiencing a new perspective is always good I did not enjoy this series. The author did a good job but the plot was more about marital issues and infidelity than what I'm used to from the series as a whole.

Unlistenable tedious woke garbage

The narration is good and the concept is interesting. So why a good author insists on filling his story with woke bullshit that drags you out of the story is beyond me.

Beware the eater of dialect and accent

Atrocious reading. Attempts at ethnic dialect and regional british accent are pathetic. Other than that attempts to distinguish other characters with accents of class or social position are simply childish. I like the story and the author but the narrator should be subject to a geas of silence!

Pronunciation

it would've been nice if the narrator had checked the in-universe pronunciation of some words

Good but not the best in series

Story good but a few too many long descriptions of police/management procedures. Narrator good when she stuck to her own accent. Other accents ranged from middling to so awful it was painful to listen to!

A good but not great Laundry files story let down by poor production quality

The change of lead character from previous books is a welcome and fresh perspective. The story has many of the familiar Laundry tropes although it’s fairly predictable. The biggest disappointment for me was the poor production QA. I like the narrators voice, it fits the character but it was marred by a significant number of mistakes which Hachette QA really should have picked up, including a change in gender for the lead character at one point.

Disappointing slog

I've been a big fan of the laundry files racing through the previous (audio)books but came to a somewhat abrupt halt with this one. a combination of, in my opinion, a choice of narrator that did not fit the character and a leap into the ridiculous with regards to the story made this a disappointing slog to get through. If the series had started with this instalment I would have called time immediately on my journey with the Laundry however Charles Stross has earned some leeway with his previous books which have mostly been excellent. My suggestion is to skip this one and read a quick synopsis online to make sure you don't miss any of the overarching plot points to be continued into the next book. An unfortunate miss.

Another superb laundry outing

Stross has done it again, another great laundry files book read by an excellent narrator.

Dreadful narrator

I love all of these books but the narration of this one is terrible Ihad to skip half of the book and move on to the next.

Onwards and upwards, continues the story

This is the continuation of the Laundry Files, only this time it's from the female perspective as Mo. The story is great as usual, however I found it slow for the first few hours. The ending was great, dramatic with several reveals.
