About this listen

Holmes is confronted with the disappearance of the bride of a nobleman - just minutes after the ceremony.

"The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor" is one of the 56 original Sherlock Holmes stories and was first published in Strand Magazine in April 1892. It served as the (loose) basis for The Eligible Bachelor, a film starring Jeremy Brett as Holmes, Edward Hardwicke as Watson, and Simon Williams as Lord St. Simon.

Editorial reviews

At just under forty minutes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor" begins when Lord Robert St. Simon's bride has disappeared. But is this a case of foul play or just a runaway bride? Our good old hero Sherlock Holmes must get to the bottom of this mystery. Walter Zimmerman and cast give bang-up performances. In particular, the variety of voices makes this audiobook plenty of fun for detective story fans. Narrator Watson's voice is pitch-perfect: nervous, breathy, eager to please. Holmes' intellectual, slightly cocky voice also perfectly hits its mark.

Critic Reviews

"England's most famous fictional detective is, of course, Sherlock Holmes. So great was Conan Doyle's skill in story-telling that Holmes and Watson have become, in a sense, more 'real' than their creator." (G.K. Chesterton)
