Publisher's Summary

Life is short. Make the most of it.

It was winter. Lauren Keenan was separated from her husband, lonely and miserable. Then came the night of 27 Rejections of Doom: she asked 27 people to hang out one Friday night and every single person said no.

Lauren realised her life wasn’t working for her and that she needed to change it. It was time to try something new. Fifty-two new things, in fact. She made a resolution: she’d try 52 new things in 52 weeks.

From zip-lining to entering a stand-up comedy night, swimming with sharks to detoxing from social media, giving up alcohol for six months to going to a music festival alone, Lauren put herself out there with surprising results.

Her year of new experiences was a game changer. It repaired her relationship with her husband, she regained confidence in herself and she realised how satisfying it can be to push yourself to your limits and to do things on your own.

The 52 Week Project combines Lauren’s insights and humour with current psychological research, as she takes listeners with her on her year of discovery.

I would have loved a Kiwi narrator for this

I've done a similar thing to Lauren and so resonated with her story. With her being a Kiwi I would have loved a Kiwi narrator for this audiobook though, as I've not come across many books narrated by Kiwis and I'd love to hear some of our stories told by our people.

Worth getting to the end.

A worthwhile reflection on the modern human journey. It even gave me pause to reflect as well as appreciating my own marriage more deeply. There were a few moment where I did not align or appreciate the authors perspective, but valued her reflection and where that took her. I do not think the narration was great and sometimes made the author sound petulant and annoying, but the author’s voice came through despite it. Very good.

Incongruent jabbering

Attempting to listening to this was like running your nails down a chalk board. The storyline started by talking about the loneliness the author felt post separation and after she was rejected by 27-friends one Friday night. The description leadis you to believe this book was a story of post-relationship self discovery with few references to her separation even claiming at one point they went on dates to see if they could re-kindle what they had. However it very quickly become a tale of learning to love yoyr looks and we somehow diverted to the scars of being voted 3rd most ugly at school!!! i mean if learning to applyimake-up, or daring to wear red lippy is a project for you, then this book might do it for you as it did (of sorts) to the author. Most of the 'project's' however were infantile and superficial at best. Unless a long diatribe of over-exaggerated monologue was an option when describing a project they were skipped over and no insight given as to how this shaped or enhanced the authors life after she was 'rejected by 27 friends on that fateful Friday night. If the 'project's were anything to go by then it is little wonder no one wanted to hang.

The narration was painfully kitch. It went with the patronising content. Could not finish.
