Editorial reviews

For comedy fans, these three writers and radio personalities don't need an introduction. Symphony Space's Thalia Book Club ingeniously brings together Sloane Crosley, master of the humorous essay; Ira Glass, longtime host of radio program This American Life; and the late David Rakoff, author, actor, and 2011 winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor. It is an exuberant conversation, to put it mildly. The three charismatic entertainers have a comfortable repartee, and Crosley is always quick to laugh.

At the beginning of the performance, Rakoff and Crosley each read excerpts from their work. Then they answer questions from Glass and audience members about their creative process and truth in storytelling.

Publisher's Summary

The whip-smart and funny authors of the essay collections Don't Get Too Comfortable (Rakoff) and I Was Told There'd Be Cake (Crosley) join up to examine our contemporary culture and the many ways life can go awry in New York City, as presented in their new books. Ira Glass (This American Life) will introduce the authors.
