About this listen
Do people say they hate someone's guts so they can still fall stupidly, head-over-heels in love with the other parts?
I'm begging you to tell me that the practice of falling in love with your should-be-enemy is common. Please tell me that I'm not the only person to track down a guy - who used to be Hollywood's baddest bad boy before he left LA for good - at his off-the-grid cabin in Alaska, show up unannounced, and find him gloriously naked.
This probably happens all the time...right? Tell me I'm not alone in my stupidity - that I'm not the only woman who would fall for gorgeous blue eyes and a sexy devilish smirk, even if they belong to a broody, mysterious jerk.
For the love of everything, I need all the supportive girl power I can get if I'm going to convince Luca Weaver to come back to Hollywood - otherwise known as the place he hates so much that he ghosted Oscar-level success and escaped to no-man's-land for the last eight years just to avoid it.
Yeah, don't worry - that smoke you're smelling isn't your house catching fire as you read this...it's just my career and what was previously known as my heart going up in flames.
Contains mature themes.
©2020 Max Monroe (P)2020 TantorOne of the book's strengths is how Billie doesn't just fall back into Luca's arms immediately. She makes him work for her affection, adding a layer of authenticity and strength to her character. This dynamic is refreshing and adds depth to their relationship.
However, the repetition of how small and perfect Billie's body is gets a bit tiresome after a while. It felt overused and somewhat detracted from the otherwise witty and engaging narrative.
The novel's humor is spot-on, and the romantic tension is palpable. There's a fun, self-aware tone that keeps the story lively and entertaining. Monroe's writing is sharp and full of clever banter, making it a joy to read.
Now, to the heart of the matter: do people really say they hate someone’s guts just to fall head-over-heels in love with them? Asking for a friend. I'm the friend. And yes, it's totally common! Falling for someone who should be your enemy, like Billie does, is a trope that resonates because it's rooted in real, messy emotions.
So, if you're not alone in tracking down a guy at his secluded Alaskan cabin, showing up unannounced, and finding him gloriously naked—take comfort in knowing that these wild, impulsive acts of love are what great rom-coms (and real-life adventures) are made of.
Despite his aversion, Billie's journey to convince Luca Weaver to return to Hollywood is both hilarious and heartfelt. It's a ride filled with laughter, love, and a bit of heartache, making it a thoroughly enjoyable read.
