About this listen

For fans of The Next Conversation comes an insider's view of the Australian legal system, packed with hilarious true stories and useful life lessons.

As a criminal defence lawyer, Jahan Kalantar has helped people in their most desperate hour, from hardened jailbirds to accidental offenders, disadvantaged delinquents to undeserving scapegoats.

But on his journey from clueless student to white-wigged barrister, Jahan has learned that it's not always the smartest person in the room who wins the day. There are other, more important skills: like being able to ask for help, stick to your values, listen without judgement, know when to be sceptical, and apologise like you mean it.

In Talk Your Way Out of Trouble, Jahan shares his hard-earned insights through laugh-out-loud funny stories of his own triumphs and blunders, as well as those of his clients. Full of humour and heart, this is an insider's look at how the law really works - and why its lessons are vital for everyone, in and out of the courtroom.

Eloquence and intrigue

This book is the most fascinating material I have consumed about law and the personal experiences someone has had in their journey to find their calling in life. There is great insight into the legal system but there is much more than that. Jahan has created a captivating piece of writing which embodies the human experience and connects you with people and their circumstances in an authentic and personal way. I would and will recommend this to anyone who has even considered picking up (or, let’s be real, listening to) a book.

Fantastic stories, great humor, and really inspiring- who would have thought the law would be so interesting! Highly recommended

My only complaint is that it ended. When’s the sequel coming out? Keen to hear more

What a ride!

The life of an advocate is incredible. I laughed, cried, laughed, balked, scoffed, pondered, learnt things, and laughed some more. I admired the tenacity, philosophy, insight, and quick witted humour of the author. The style of writing was as good as the story itself - 10/10. Jahan, please write another! I loved it!

Thank you Jahan

The storey written and narrated by Jahan made me addicted to what happens next on his journey as a baby lawyer. I resonated with a lot of the struggles that Jahan faced and hearing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel really does give you hope. The narration was easy to listen to and made the drives to and from work a lot easier.

I hope you enjoy

hi everyone! Jahan here. This is my story and I wanted to be the first to review it. Its one thing to write it but it's another to listen to it with some distance and some perspective. I am very proud of this work and I hope you enjoy it. I set out to write a conversational, humorous and honest account of life as a criminal defence lawyer with some lessons and some insights. I think I succeeded. I hope it brings you some joy and I hope you enjoy my it. thanks!
