About this listen

TMI is the story of how Mario Lavandeira became Perez Hilton, a celebrity blogger with millions of readers around the globe who was sometimes called the Most Hated Man in Hollywood. Growing up in Miami’s Little Havana in the 1980s, Perez was bullied at school because of his weight and his sexual orientation, so he devoted all his free time to eating and watching TV in his bedroom. A scholarship to NYU was a lifesaver, as Perez felt at home in New York. But his finances took a battering, and he moved on to LA. After being fired from three different jobs within the space of 10 months, Perez suddenly hit it big in 2005 with his gossip blog. With Perez’s help, many promising young artists reached the masses - Katy Perry, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Lady Gaga, to name just a few. Perez soon became a Hollywood insider, but during his dramatic fallout with Lady Gaga, he realized he had been used. Perez’s blog became increasingly mean - “It went from bitchy to nasty”, he recalls.

But a turning point came when Perez uploaded a video for the It Gets Better campaign and was surprised by the backlash it received. People called him a bully and a hypocrite because he previously outed gay celebrities on his blog. Perez was forced to reevaluate not only his alter ego, but also himself as a person. Following the birth of his son, he was also faced with a number of new opportunities for growth and personal reflection. TMI reveals the man behind the blog in a new, revealing, and still-juicy memoir.

If you like listening to light hearted celebrity (Hollywood) biographies, you will like this. It was a little short and it felt lacking in details at some points. You can tell it was written by ghost writers. But overall, it was pleasant and gave some insight into Perez’s past. If you like him now, I think you get more listening to his weekly Podcast.

Good read. Interesting story. Liked that he is self made- didn’t like that it was at others expense ( but that’s what sells) but loved the happy ending.

Good brain candy

Loved loved it Perez is so honest with his life and I thank him for that yes he’s had his faults but I think we all do well done for being so brutally honest and being who you are 💕

Fantastic story

A bit of background insight to a past big name, sounds like he really messed a number of people's lives around. Says his remorseful - he might be, or he might just know that's the proper thing to say now to get a more positive following.
Either way, easy book to listen to with short chapters means you can just chuck it on and listen to one chapter or multiple with whatever timeframe you've got.

This audiobook has exceeded my expectations! I smashed through it in a day. The narration was great, and very easy to listen to. It felt very personal as if he’s a friend just chatting your ear away. Keeps you paying attention the whole time. There’s no dull chapter. I often catch my self re-listening certain parts because of how hilarious it is, as well as the sad hard hitting behind the scenes celebrity stories, as well as Perez’s childhood.

From childhood memories, to celebrity relationships (lady Gaga, Amanda Bynes). I must say Perez has outdone himself, I hope someone can produce his life into a movie, because from what I’ve listened to it is CRAZY! 💕

There are a few expose’s the most jaw dropping one FOR ME was John Meyer. 🤭

The only critique I have, for the sake of improvement. Midway through I did notice that the quality of narration fluctuating, it sounded like he was obviously reading, rather than the natural conversational way of narration on most part. But that’s just me being too critical.

CANT WAIT FOR ANOTHER ONE!

Entertaining and easy to listen to

The whole thing read like a teenage girls diary. There was no depth even when discussing his past traumas, it had a surface level basic feel.

I had to speed it up to 1.5 as he read so slowly and droned on and on... It felt like Perez was trying to draw the whole thing out for more airtime.

It’s a big humble brag with no accountability for any of his actions.

Disappointed in myself for giving it a listen.

Feels like a teenagers diary
