يعود الكاتب الليبي "فرج العشة" في روايته الثانية "سينسيوس وهيباتيا" إلى أواخر القرن الثالث الميلادي، ليحكي لنا بأسلوب روائي، عن الصراع بين الدين المسيحي والفلسفة الذي كان على أشدّه في ذلك الوقت من التاريخ.

يدور الكلام في الرواية على لسان شخصيتها الرئيسيّة "سينسيوس"، وهو ابن مدينة "قورينا" الليبيّة، والده سليل المستوطنين الإغريق الأوائل، وأمه متحدّرة من سلالة ملك قبيلة الأسبوستاي الليبيّة، وبذا فإنه منذ تفتّح وعيه أدرك مسألة الهوية، وأثار ذهنه سؤال الانتماء، إذ يرفض الإغريق الهللينيين اعتبار القورينيين مواطنين هللينيين، بل مجرّد ليبيّين برابرة، اكتسبوا هللينيّتهم بطرق خفيّة وغير صحيحة...

تعرف سينسيوس الى المسيحية عن طريق إنجيل يوحنا ، وشدته عقيدة الخلاص وتأثر بالسيرة الحياتية والتجربة الفذة لإبن موطنه مرقس .. لكن بقيت التساؤلات كثيرة في ذهنه ، فهو بقدر ما يتمسك بفكرة الخلاص لم يستطع أن يتخلى عن شغفه بالفلسفة...
