Publisher's Summary

Maddie’s getting it from all sides. Her bitchy new boss at the radio station humiliates her live on air about her figure, her glamour-puss mum keeps dropping not-so-subtle hints that Maddie should lose weight, and her kids are embarrassed to be seen with her after the disastrous Mums’ race at their school sports day. Something’s got to change….

Maddie joins the local weight-watching group expecting more humiliation but instead finds two unlikely allies: bitter divorcee Lauren who, despite running a dating agency, has signed off romance forever and shy Jess, the beautician, who’s desperate to fit into a size 10 wedding dress for her big day.

Dreadful Narration Wrecks Story

This is an interesting story but the narrator was so bad that I stopped listening and read the rest of the book - for the first time in 4 years of listening to audiobooks
Narrator Kate Rawson’s accents for the different characters were horrific to listen to, made no sense in terms of geography and made this otherwise nice story impossible to listen to
Such a pity

SO INCREDIBLY PAINFUL

Ive listened to the first four chapters hoping it would improve. I find the narrator unbearable. Dreadful pantomime performance, with way over the top accents.
The story itself is pretty average but I would have persevered if the narrator wasn't so bad.

You cant go wrong with Lucy Diamond!

Straight from the beginning, I really enjoyed this book. It took no effort to get absorbed in the story of the women and it kept me wanting to find out what was to happen, which for me is the sign of a great read/listen too. Highly recommended

How to lose weight and gain a life!

This is a heart-warming story about three quite different women who have all struggled for years with failing diets and feeling that their excess weight defined their personalities. They meet up when they go on a weight loss program. We learn about them, their families, relationships and work issues as the months go by and the pounds drop off, experiencing both highs and lows when they realise that becoming slimmer does not necessarily bring the unalloyed joy they had hoped for and they have to make unexpected adjustments in their views of life. Kate Rawson reads beautifully and brings the women to life in a most appealing way.

More to it than I expected

Any additional comments?

I picked this up because it sounded light and amusing but didn't expect much more than 'froth'. I was wrong. Yes, it's the despised chick-lit but with some good characterisation that struck real chords at times.

I think I was hooked when I heard poor unfit Maddy go through the ritual humiliation of being last by a mile in the torture that is the school sports day mother's race. Of the 3 main characters I found I could relate to Maddie and Jess, less so to Lauren, but I still wanted to find out what happened next. Ended up even looking forward to the commute to work.

I thought the narration was good, and really liked the variety of accents across the cast. It was definitely a lot more interesting than reading a diet book!

Thoroughly enjoyable listen

If you could sum up Sweet Temptation in three words, what would they be?

Inspiring, funny, down-to-earth

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sweet Temptation?

The eagerly anticipated date, which turned out to be a waste of time and the relief on receiving the 'escape phone call'. (A situation most people could relate to!)

What about Kate Rawson’s performance did you like?

Her enthusiasm and different accents which made it easy to identify the different characters.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The dieters guide to life.....

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this book and found it very easy to listen to. The number of characters added to the depth of the story and as the book progressed it became apparent how their lives intertwined. It is a story that most women can relate to, dieting and dating and the difficulties of both!
The narrator was great and really added to the story. She helps to differentiate the characters and this enable the listener to get to know each of the girls individually and as a group.

Lovely but disappointing

It could have been more empowering instead of 3 women disliking their bodies and going to a diet club.

Very old hat to be honest. Why couldn't they be loved when they were fat? Why couldn't they be confident and empowered.

I like the author but it was way too 90s for a book out today.

enjoyed.

enjoyed this story of three women loosing weight encouraged by fat busters the slimming group they belong to.
told in the first person by each woman, maddie whose husband loves her just the way she, Jessica who is engaged and wants to be slim for her wedding day, and lauren who is single and is happy that way.
starts out funny and deals with more serious things as we follow them to reach their goal. friendship, love, loss and becoming a stronger person are all there.
kate rawson performed the book well, doing all the Birmingham accents for the various characters.

Really enjoyed this book

This has been my first Lucy Diamond book and I have to say the narrator at first was a tad annoying but as the book went on she became easy to listen to.

Being a bit of a chubster myself the characters resonated with me and I really enjoyed the story and characters.

I just bought my next Lucy Diamond book beach cafe can’t wait.
