Editorial reviews

In this noir short story from Bill Pronzini two strangers meet in the fog as one, Hannigan, is digging a grave on his property. The other, a large shadowy figure asks to use a phone and whether or not Hannigan has heard about the escaped lunatic on the rampage. Stacy Keach performs the audiobook, giving the characters unique voices and the narration a dark gravity recalling radio plays of the past and the serious and morose tone of an Orson Welles or Vincent Price. The story goes from mystery to fear with the swirling uncertainty of the titular fog.

Publisher's Summary

In a remote spot, Hannigan is burying a body he claims is his dog. A man suddenly emerges from the fog, asking if he can call for help, since he had to quickly escape a nearby house from a jealous husband. The district is tense, since the news warns of an escaped lunatic killer from a mental hospital is on the loose. The two men return to Hannigan’s house and unexpectedly meet a third man in the fog, claiming to be a policeman, whose car broke down. Is one of them the escaped lunatic killer?
