Excellent Book

A book involving such fine detail of village life could only have been written by a person with first hand knowledge of Village life, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book,at times I found it difficult to put the book down.

Excellent Story and Wonderfully Well Read

I read this book years ago and loved it. This audio book is excellent. The audible version is very well done. Her voices make you see the characters. I’ve heard other audio books by well known actors who aren’t half as good as June Barrie, she makes the story come alive. I can’t recommend this audio book highly enough.

Very enjoyable

A very enjoyable book or to be more accurate books. Miss Read provides a wonderful escape from reality when the troubles of the real world are too much to cope with.

Memories!

My church school was much like this and, like George Lamb, I'm very grateful for the excellent education, albeit in Spartan surroundings!

Wonderful window into a past time

The world of Fairacre and Miss Read is simply the life and occurrences of a village school teacher. It is the everyday experiences that are relatable because of the cast of characters that everyone has met in one form or another. The time period and location may differ but people are still people. The world inhabited by Miss Read is perhaps a little rose-tinted and Miss Read herself is level headed capable and not given to dark nights of the soul. And this is probably one of the reasons the stories are so comforting and pleasurable by accompanying Miss Read as she sails through her world.
