Story
When a banished witch falls in love with the legendary trickster Loki, she risks the wrath of the gods in this moving, subversive debut novel that reimagines Norse mythology. Angrboda’s story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.

Story
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

Story
Little is known about the Ancient Greek oral poet Homer, the supposed 8th century BC author of the world-read Iliad and his later masterpiece, The Odyssey. These classic epics provided the basis for Greek education and culture throughout the classical age and formed the backbone of humane education through the birth of the Roman Empire and the spread of Christianity.

Publisher's Summary
Longlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2023
This audio edition is read by the author, Natalie Haynes.
In Stone Blind, the instant Sunday Times bestseller, Natalie Haynes brings the infamous Medusa to life as you have never seen her before.
‘So to mortal men, we are monsters. Because of our flight, our strength. They fear us, so they call us monsters’
Medusa is the sole mortal in a family of gods. Growing up with her Gorgon sisters, she begins to realize that she is the only one who experiences change, the only one who can be hurt.
When Poseidon commits an unforgiveable act against Medusa in the temple of Athene, the goddess takes her revenge where she can: on his victim. Medusa is changed forever – writhing snakes for hair and her gaze now turns any living creature to stone. She can look at nothing without destroying it.
Desperate to protect her beloved sisters, Medusa condemns herself to a life of shadows. Until Perseus embarks upon a quest to fetch the head of a Gorgon . . .

One of the best books ever
I just loved this book about the Medusa myth. I don’t want to give any spoilers but I recommend this to everyone. Natalie Haynes at her very best.

Am unusual retelling
I am enjoying the current trend in retelling myths. Natalie Haynes is an expert in this genre. The story of Medusa has always struck me as a tragedy where the gods show their selfishness and pettiness. It was nice that Medusa was given such a loving childhood.

Brought a tear…
I cried at the end…Was I supposed to ? I’m a hard wired Greek tragedy tragic. Gods come and go in Greek history but you get this feeling that they went and didn’t return c.500BCE. Unfortunately the sword whacking dumb arse (pardon) heroes live on in movies were there are more six packs than at your local liquor outlet! Medusa is a not a story of history but HER-story. If she was the last one standing out of dumb gods and goddesses and brainless heroes then Im well pleased that her statues live on so to speak… well done Natalie!

An old story given a breath of fresh air
An interesting female take on an ancient story. Loved it and recommend to those who love myths reimagined. Leaves you questioning what a hero is and what a monster is.

So clever it's addictive
This is one of the best retellings of Greek mythology I've ever heard - and I've heard a lot. Haynes brings so much life, personality, and wit to the story of Medusa. She flips it on it's head in a way that makes you disbelieve that you ever believed the way it's been told before. Everything is tied together so beautifully, and told with so much humour and heart. Exceptional book, one of my new favourites.

Listener beware
Interesting and empathic perspective on the characters. The performer’s often hysterical and petulant reading of the story got very tedious at times. The story would have been better served using a trained actor who could bring variety and nuance to the characters
