About this listen
A romantic cabin getaway doesn't go exactly as planned.
High up on the windswept cliffs of Pale Peak, Faye and Felix celebrate their new engagement. But soon, a chorus of ghastly noises erupts from the nearby woods: the screams of animals, the cries of children, and the mad babble of a hundred mournful voices. A dark figure looms near the windows in the dead of night, whispering to Faye. As the weather turns deadly, Felix discovers that his terrified fiancée isn't just mumbling in her sleep—she's whispering back.

Terrifying, vivid, and unique
I am genuinely confused by the rating for this title. As someone who reads exclusively horror, I haven't been this unsettled by a book in a long time. Based on the blurb, I dismissed this as a typical creature feature/folk horror story and I was so wrong. The story drags a bit in the third act but overall the imagery evoked by the author throughout the story is unique and deeply unsettling. I actually had to turn it off one night because I was sufficiently creeped out before bed. Many of the scenes from this story will stay with me. On top of this, the narrator is fantastic and brought the unhinged dialogue to life. Can't wait to read more from the author.

Fun horror
Fun listening. I couldn’t help but hear Tina from Bob’s burgers as the girlfriend narration though

good horror image and good use of mythology
Overall this worked well. it had a good horror mythology and was paced reasonably well.
I do feel like the female character of Fay really was pushed into the background and given very little to do, despite the fact she was the focus of the Supernatural occurrences.
She was only interesting when reacting to the entity's control and, despite constantly being described as interesting and clever, she didn't do much in the narrative but cry and vomit.
I would have liked to see her be more active in her reactions to the possession.
It also didn't help that all the female characters were written to be extremely unlikable - aside from the character of Angela, who was liable but seemed tacked on as another native American character again with very little to actually do.
The reading/narrator also added an unfortunate "drag queen" element as all the female characters sounded exactly the same; like a woman badly parodied by a man.
Having a female voice for the female characters may have helped differentate them and made the book work better in that regard.
despite the massive issue with female characterisation and performance, much of the book was well written and the horror elements worked extremely well in general.

Ok..
As a person who has read horror as a main genre for years, this story left something to be desired. In saying this, though, it was ok.
Character development only really focuses on Felix (who is named and is aspiring to be in the same profession as the author, weird) when it could of been shared a touch more with other characters for example, Fay, who felt very one dimensional and as the princess in need of rescuing from the proverbial dragon.
The authors note at the end, it felt like a justification even after he mentioned that his respected colleagues warned against writing native Americans into the story.
Also, more research would of been appreciated on the "big bad", as flesh pedestrian's are, even from my basic knowledge, a lot more scarier in current media, instead the one in this story just seems like your average human stalker.
Overall, an ok listen if you have nothing else to listen too..

Enjoyed!!!
I really enjoyed this book, I honestly thought a book couldn’t freak me out, this book did it.
Narration was brilliant loved the voices it helped give me an eeriness to the story.

Strong start
Stolen Tongues began strongly with a really creepy atmosphere being created. There were some very unsettling scenes throughout the book that had me feeling pretty spooked. I also enjoyed Felix and Faye as characters as well as their relationship. However, I did find the story to become repetitive towards the end, which diminished the scares that I really wanted to have. It became a bit of a struggle to finish.

Book was OK enough, narration is awful
the narrative yells every line tonelessly, even if the writing says "said softly" or "whispered", and seems to think that doing a female voice just means speaking even louder in a whiney voice, it almost made the book impossible to listen to and I reverted to my Kindle a LOT while reading this book. the book itself is overrated as a scary book, the intro is chilling and then the rest if the book is 90% dead boring and doesn't live up to the intro.

Started great, lost momentum
The story started out really great. It was gripping, creepy. But then it just devolved to stereotypical. Bit of a letdown as I’ve wanted to read this for ages. The little explanation at end about writing native Americans also came off a bit preachy. Just write a good story that doesn’t devolve to stereotypes dude. Don’t overthink it
The biggest complaint though. The audio narrator. I’ve heard him a few times and well. His voices are often too shrill, too loud, & just sound the same. He also has a tendency to whisper shout too much. Often too much emphasis (aka bad actor).

Decent book, rough narration
The book itself is pretty decent, though maybe losses some of the tension the original online story has by increasing the pace of the scares. The humour and writing feels slightly worse as well, though I couldn’t pin why. The narrator however makes the experience much more difficult with very bad voices and mismatching tone to what is being written.
