This will put you in a good spirit

An optimistically making book that, with stoic advice, whilst describing the writer's difficulties, will put you in good spirits. Therefore, a book that is ideal for someone who perceives a life mostly as a problem. What I remember most was thinking about our everyday life, which seems boring and uncomfortable to many.

It helps the beginners

The Stoic Challenge from James Hollins is a great supplement with his first, and more in-depth book on Stoicism, “A Guide To The Good Life”. If you haven’t listen this, I would suggest starting there and then moving on to The Stoic Challenge.

Its like a test book

A fine historical summary of stoicism. I found the stoic treatment of emotions especially interesting. The chapter on the influence of stoicism in later centuries was very helpful. Foucault a stoic!

Helps me a lot

The Stoic system of logic and physics are uninteresting to me, and they take up two fifths of the book. But the rest is very listenable and complete - a fine book to help undertake a Stoic personal morality project in your life.

Great overview

This is a great overview of Stoic philosophy. Sellers gives a short history of the main players in the first chapter, as well as a brief rundown of the influence of Stoicism on western thought up to the 20th century.

I like the message that the book carries. It is a great philosophy that has been tested practiced and is being practiced by some of the world's brightest minds. Stoicism helps you to take back control of your emotions and avoid the chronic dis-satisfactions.

Its beautiful

I wanted a good general introduction to Stoicism, before listening (as I plan to) more of the primary and secondary material. This book turned out to be great for that purpose. It's simple, fairly straightforward, though Sellers also interacts in a light way with the scholarship, and does an excellent job of "mapping out" key figures and questions.
