Story
The death of one’s spirit should come with a great deal of noise: weeping and wailing, if not thunder or the roar of a fire. Elizabeth could not have imagined a spirit forced into darkness by something so mundane as the scratch of pen on paper. Elizabeth Bennet has been certain of many things in her life: her place in society, the love of her family, her ability to choose her own future, and her ability to accurately judge the character of those she meets. Three days after the Netherfield Ball, a near tragedy shakes that foundation.

Story
In this amorous, provocative, and at times tumultuous "what-if" story, Mr. Darcy is a wealthy young man of sense and education, with considerable worldly experience - not at all uncommon for Regency-era gentlemen of his social standing. He is his own master. He enjoys his situation and has no particular desire to marry at all. Darcy's world is turned inside out when he renews his acquaintance with Miss Elizabeth Bennet - her own circumstances considerably diminished pursuant to the sudden and tragic death of her father.

Story
“Mr Darcy, I am eager to hear your explanation for the fact that quite a few people believe we are engaged.” It starts with a bit of well-meant advice. Colonel Fitzwilliam suggests to his cousin Darcy that, before he proposes to Elizabeth Bennet in Kent, perhaps he ought to discuss his plans with their families first. What neither man could have predicted however was that Lord Matlock would write the news to his sister, or that Viscount Saye would overhear and tell his friends, or that his friends might slip a little and let their friends know as well.
Publisher's Summary
Widowed after six months of marriage, an older Elizabeth is determined to leave her past behind and enjoy life to its fullest, on her own terms. Charming, witty, and engaging, she is widely admired by all. However, everything is not as it seems. She harbours a secret.
The beautiful widow captivates a younger Mr. Darcy. He knows her better than she knows herself. He struggles to break through her protective barriers, the most daunting being her tightly held conviction that she will never marry again.

Naive Elizabeth Meets a Determined Younger Darcy
I love Ms. Hewitt's ability to drawn you in when speaking Ms. Dixon's heartwarming, engaging dialogue! Elizabeth was forced to marry due to a compromise. Her husband treated her horribly. She became a widow after being married for a short time. Her in-laws were determined to give her a season in town. The blurb written about the book, accurately captures the essence of the story, "The beautiful widow captivates a younger Mr. Darcy. He knows her better than she knows herself. He struggles to break through her protective barriers, the most daunting being her tightly held conviction that she will never marry again and that is where she meets a younger Darcy." In her naivete, she is nearly ruined by a scoundrel. Darcy is her knight-in-shining armor...protecting her from herself and cads. Once he finally overcomes her reluctance to remarry, they finally achieve their HEA. Darcy's discovery on their wedding night was an extremely pleasant surprise!! You will have to read this extremely original, well-written engaging story to find out what the surprise is!!! This is one story that I have read and listened to over and over again!! It is a GREAT story!!

Thought provoking
Twisting the facts of life to produce new obstacles to love. Will you agree with how they handle their problems. Does Elizabeth ‘s personality change since she is first born ? Is she her mother’s favorite? The author weaves a good tale with her wit and charm. The characters come alive with the voices of Pearl Hewitt. Thank you for the free audible edition it allows me to knit while I listen to the story. My husband enjoys that I can cook and he us not interrupting my reading!

Very disappointing
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, I would not. I was so disappointed on so many scores, that I would not recommend it. The story did not offer any cìredible novelties and lamely copied much of the original P&P plot. The personae acted out of character.
What was most disappointing about P.O. Dixon’s story?
Its weak plot and lack of overall vitality.
What three words best describe Pearl Hewitt’s performance?
Marred by the story.
Do you think Still a Young Man needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, thanks.
