About this listen

Chase Rogan and Mason Finley fell in love as kids and had their happily-ever-after at eighteen. Or so they thought.

Over a decade after his estrangement from his ex, Chase returns to Finley Dairy to celebrate Mason's sister's engagement. But being back at the place where his fondest memories are--the place where he and Mason laughed, played, and loved--quickly ropes Chase back into those feelings all over again, reminding him of the flame he could never extinguish.

Despite his attempts at getting over Chase, Mason still can't move on--not from the greatest love he's ever known. When Chase comes back to the dairy, all those old feelings return, as powerful as ever. A wavering hope strengthens, making him believe that maybe...just maybe...they can find a way to put the past behind them and create a future together. But it isn't easy, and every time he pushes, Chase pulls away. As much as Mason wants it to work, if it doesn't, what's he supposed to do? How can you move on when--even after all the years--you know in your heart, he's still your guy?

Still Your Guy was an emotional read for me, but not in the way I expected.
I went into this story hoping for a heartfelt second-chance romance, but I struggled deeply with Chase’s character. I found him selfish, immature, and painfully unaware of how his past and present attitude and choices affected Mason. Watching him walk away, move on, and have multiple relationships — including a couple of long-term ones— while Mason was left carrying the deep sorrow and emotional weight of their breakup was genuinely upsetting.

What made it even harder was the imbalance. Chase seemed to have no issue building a life with other people, yet showed jealousy when Mason had even a brief connection with someone from his past. That double standard was difficult to sit with, and it made me feel incredibly protective of Mason, who deserved so much more care and consideration. I also dislike previous relationships being brought so blatantly to the forefront in any story so this gave me an immediate sinking feeling.

Even when they reconnected, I never felt fully invested in Chase’s intentions. Knowing he still considered leaving again in the second last chapter made it hard to feel secure in their relationship or truly celebrate their reconciliation. Instead of feeling comforted, I felt anxious and, honestly, heartbroken on Mason’s behalf.

The epilogue does provide a HEA, but for me, it didn’t completely heal the emotional journey. I was left with a lingering sadness and a sense of emptiness rather than satisfaction. I wanted to believe in their future, but Chase’s earlier actions stayed with me.

That said, the writing itself is engaging and clearly evokes strong emotions — I cried for Mason more than once, which speaks to how invested I became.

If you’re someone who enjoys messy, complicated characters and emotional angst, this might work for you. But if you struggle with imbalance in relationships or characters who cause repeated hurt, this one may be a difficult read.

Emotionally Frustrating and Heartbreaking
