About this listen

5,000 years in the future, humanity faces total extermination.

Our one defence: highly-trained soldiers who scour the metal-strewn blackness of space to hunt down a terrifying enemy: an insect life-form known only as 'Bugs.'

This is the story of trooper Johnny Rico, from his idealistic enlistment in the infantry of the future through his rigorous training to the command of his own platoon. And his destiny is a war that will span the galaxy.

So similar yet different to the movie. Enjoyed the deeper explanation for citizenship and what it really means to be Mobile Infantry.

Starship Troopers... narated by RC Bray,... it just doesn't get much better than this!

Many thanks

Incredible!

I cannot believe this book was first published in 1959!! It feels as contemporary and better written than most of the things in its category today.
I'm so stoked I came across it!
I loved the movie but never knew it was based on a book.

Wow!!! This book should get me Love!

So I’ve read this book a few times.
Every thing is better with R. C. though.

Bray is the man

A classic in SF, written by one of the original masters. R.C Bray, again performs this very well. A shorter book than most SF, however one that should be in most schools if not most peoples list of books to read. We live in a time when we take for granted the rights to vote and being a citizen and while the themes in this book are a little darker than where we might want to be, there is a hint of sarcasm that one can gain when looking at the contemporary juxtaposition. Also after many years of listening to RC Bray, he is officially on my list of living people I would love to have a beer with.

One of the classics - Well perfomed

As a huge fan of the movie it was a pleasant experience to listen to this audiobook, not much action but decent story about military life that is well read.

5/5.

always nice to be reminded you don't hate Hollywood enough. Thank god verhoven gave the script writing to someone competent.

movie was good too.

but as with all movies based on books, read the source first.

Paul Verhoeven is a midwit

story introduced concepts now standard in SciFi e.g. power armour.
not enough variety between different characters voice so at times was hard to tell who was saying what.

Ahead of its time

i was surprised at how the story feels very pro- military. Specially given how the movie is quite the opposite! It's a fun enough listen but no where near at deep or thoughtful as Stranger in a Strange Land.

Not what i expected
