Publisher's Summary

There’s something out there: A juggernaut of evil bearing down to crush the Republic - unless one lone Jedi, shunned and reviled, can stop it.

Revan: Hero, traitor, conqueror, villain, savior. A Jedi who left Coruscant to defeat Mandalorians - and returned a disciple of the dark side, bent on destroying the Republic. The Jedi Council gave Revan his life back, but the price of redemption was high. His memories have been erased. All that’s left are nightmares - and deep, abiding fear.

What exactly happened beyond the Outer Rim? Revan can’t quite remember, yet can’t entirely forget. Somehow he stumbled across a terrible secret that threatens the very existence of the Republic. With no idea what it is, or how to stop it, Revan may very well fail, for he’s never faced a more powerful and diabolic enemy. But only death can stop him from trying.

Entering into the foray of Star Wars Audiobooks

I had a great time with The Old Republic: Revan. To me, the KOTOR games are some of my all-time classics, and this book really helped fill the void of knowledge that it left. A good novel by Drew Karpyshyn, but I don't necessarily love the way he writes, however that's another issue.
Marc Thompson is fantastic. A wonderful job with voices (an exception re: Bastila, but a decent job considering he's up against Jennifer Hale), he's a very engrossing story teller. The odd pronounciation of words bugged me (Twi'lek, Ebon Hawk), but minor issues.
A great listen for any fans of the KOTOR series, would recommend.

EDIT: I've been listening to Heir To The Empire by Timothy Zahn, and upon retrospect it's made me think about the writing in TOR: Revan, particularly how lazy it feels. Relies too much on coincidences and easy scenarios. The world building was either non-existent or patronising. And I don't like the way the female characters are written, particularly Bastila. Feels like the fighting sense of spirit in her is gone, or maybe Karpyshyn just didn't know what to do with her.

Eh,

Bought this book like I am guessing most people due to the love of the old republic games and lore. The book is titled Revan but there seems to be a surprising lack of Revan throughout the book. The Revan we know as a brilliant tactician and incredibly gifted force user, pretty much gets turned into a martyr on a quest of self sacrifice. I felt cheated by someone trying to reconcile stories haphazardly in a manner that does not fit the character.

Absolutely incredible

Have heard so much about the story of revan and this book truly lives up to everything it was made out to be. Narrating- awesome. Story - amazing. Don’t even hesitate to listen to this, you will not regret it.
My only wish is that there was a book based on revan before this AND what happens in the aftermath.

Epic Ending

That ending was not at all what I expected, caught me by complete surprise and was quite sad yet beautiful. Loved this book more than I thought I would. The start was a little slow but the second half of the book was really enjoyable. Always love Drew’s books and yet again he has delivered.

A well composed story and great narration as always. A good follow on from the Old Republic game.

Bad writing

Story was poorly written, took a long time in a galaxy far far away to get to the point. Waste of a credit.

For SWTOR players...

First, really high praise to the audio effects and narration. Really well done and expensive.

Regarding the story.. Been into the old republic since the first comics, played swtor since launch. If you play swtor, just wow, this book is an absolute must. The biggest mind blown moment is suddenly Echoes of Oblivion is amazing, it all fits, and you want to drink up every moment of it, transforming it from being one of the most dreaded from boredom. Even the chapters have a bit more background. The sith emperor suddenly is filled in. The game also will pick up where the book leaves off..

Because if you don't play the game, the ending is probably upsettingly bad. You'll try your hardest if you are famililar with any of the characters, because the last 8-10 chapters are a bit of a flop to nowhere.

But i can't say this enough, if you have loved swtor at any point in its history, this book could make you very, very happy.

Most captivating SW novel to date

The story itself was perfect imo, dove deep into the lives of both Lord Scourge and Revan which is what I was hoping for in the novel. Loved the narration, sound affects were perfectly set. Only downside I would say is it focused a bit more onto Scourge than Revan himself which at times drew you away from his own story but it tied very well in the end.
