Hard to follow

Hard to follow the battle scenes epically with all the different Jedi and vong in it had to rewind a couple of times but still a great book some powerful scenes in there that I did not expect at all! as always would of been better if it was unabridged but that’s all books

Don't waste your money

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This audio book is very abridged and completely cuts out one of the most important acts in the history of the star wars universe. The fall of Coruscant.

What was most disappointing about Troy Denning’s story?

I imagine the story was good we just didn't get to hear it.

What didn’t you like about Alexander Adams’s performance?

No originality of voices.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger that I didn't get to hear the fall of coruscant.

Any additional comments?

Don't buy this.

Great story, too much cut out

What made the experience of listening to Star Wars the most enjoyable?

The Star Wars audio books are always an enjoyment for me to listen to. This particular story is a rather poignant one since some major EU characters is killed off in this story, which makes it sad, yet heroic, as it occurs to defeat overwhelming enemy forces.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the heavy use of EU characters, including the younger ones introduced in the "Young Jedi Knights" series, which for some incomprehensible reason, has not been made into audio books.

Which scene was your favorite?

A favorite? That's a tough one - there are many cool scenes in this book. Unfortunately, a lot of them were cut out for this abridgement. This was a HUGE novel, and the editor took a paring knife to it to force fit it into a small window of time. This was the major flaw of the older Star Wars audios - many of them were too abridged, and it hurt the story. In particular, I refer to "Darksaber", "The Crystal Star", the Jedi Academy trilogy, and the Hand of Thrawn duology, which is being rereleased this September & October, reread and UNabridged!

One cool scene was where the Jedi rescue some Dark Jedi in enemy captivity, only to be betrayed by them. How? Listen to the story!

Another is the death of the team's leader, and it's a sad ending for him, though heroic. The book definitely leaves you wanting to see what happens next!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I admit that I did weep a bit when the aforementioned character died, since through the books, we've seen him grow from a baby into a model Jedi. He was cut down too soon. The first time I read the book, I got so heavily into it that I was depressed for a few days after I finished.

Any additional comments?

In short, this is an excellent book. If you don't mind sacrificing quality for a time budget, this will do fine. If you really want the whole story, then read the book or petition Random House Audio to re-do this one, unabridged. In fact, I'd have them re-do the whole New Jedi Order, but that's just me.

While the later books (the Dark Nest Trilogy and Legacy of the Force) were also abridged, they were far less so than these older ones. After the 13th book of the New Jedi Order line, they started to wake up to this with "Destiny's Way" being far longer than usual. Then they made the mistake of similiarly abridging the Force Heretic trilogy and "The Final Prophecy". The finale, "The Unifying Force" was given a similar treatment to "Destiny's Way", and then Random House began making longer, though still edited, releases.

IMHO, the Dark Nest trilogy suffered for this, with my favorite parts in that trilogy being left out!

Similarly so with this abridgement. If you've read the book, you can fill in the gaps with your memory, so it's easier to listen to.

Either way, it's a fast-paced story, and Star Wars fans should enjoy it. I do.

why are these abridged versions so butchered?

One of the best books in the New Jedi Order Series. I read it years ago and was entirely captivated by dueling storylines and nonstop destruction roller-coaster.
This abridged version cuts away SO MUCH of that, and by focusing only on the storyline of the Myrkr mission it absolutely destroys the pacing set by Troy Denning.
Totally butchered the one-two gut punch and knock out hit the author wrote for us.

Good but very incomplete

The story is good and the presentation is very good (as usual). However, this is by far the most highly abridged Star Wars title I've heard so far and it leaves out major events important to the NJO series as a whole.

The Mission to Mryykr plot line.

I have to give them credit for making this even enjoyable. The novel is 800+ pages. This should have been a trilogy or unabridged. However it’s the only audiobook we have. Maybe someday we’ll get the full thing. Disney you like money. Why not put out unabridged Legends novels? There is $$$$ to be made.

Good Book, Don't Like The Abridgment

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story is very good but can be hard to follow because of the severe abridgment. Would love to see the books redone in an unabridged form.

What three words best describe Alexander Adams’s performance?

Alexander's performance was good but Mark Thompson sets the standard.

Do you think Star Wars needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Redo the New Jedi Order series in unabridged format.

Missing a lot but also adds to what they provide

Let me start by saying I love this book. Anakin solo is possibly my favorite character in the SW universe. I followed him from his conception. All the YA books through SxS. I enjoy the dramatic presentation the audio provides for what it provides. If you’ve read the book you can enjoy the dramatic interpretation of this audiobook. If you haven’t read it you may still enjoy it but much is missing. There is much insight into the vong that’s left out not to mention half the novel that is the invasion of corusant. By the time I listened to this I had read the book several times and excepted they left parts out. What they did give us was enjoyable. Like all SW if you want the good stuff READ. The SW EU is a great epic continuous story done as good as any series of books. From HttE through Crucible it’s hard to find a better run of novels. The most emotional SW occurs in these books. Sure there’s ups and downs but ultimately it’s nothing short of the best SW you can experience. If you like the sequel trilogy then abridged or not this story is far superior. Read SW EU!

we didn't deserve Anakin Solo

I would love to hear this book unabridged, but I thought they did a decent job of leaving this great Star Wars novel intact.

Audio and Text mismatched

Audio doesn’t match the the text of the actual novel and I’m disappointed that I’ve wasted money on this recording
